First off, congrats to Tiger, about to become a dad! Secondly, what might be going through Finchy's mind now that the news is out - not many first-time fathers are too keen on spending six out of seven weeks on the road with a newborn at home... might this, by default, be the nail-in-the-coffin for the FedEx Cup?

Hey, what did you expect? These guys are independent contractors. Now, if Buick sponsored this event instead of Mercedes, it might be a different story.

'Twas ever thus:

ARNIE, JACK SKIP MEET
(Associated Press, Wednesday, January 9, 1963)

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The winter tournament golfing campaign continued here today with most of the nation's best competing in the $25,000 San Diego Open.

Absent from the field -- a void viewed with mixed reactions -- were the top two players in the country, Masters champion Arnold Palmer and National Open titlist Jack Nicklaus.

They are slated to be in New York to receive awards from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Organization.

The San Diego has an excellent pair of hometown attractions, however, ex-National Open champion Gene Littler and Billy Casper, Jr.
