Where's The (Design) Balance?

John Boyette looks at the impact of the course changes, and considers different players views on whether long hitters will be favored.

Stewart Cink offered this succinct characterization of the changes that fellow Georgia Tech alum Bob Jones might have appreciated:

"Now they've taken the creativity out of it and made it more of an execution-style course, where there's no question where you have to hit it off the tee and what club you have to hit."

Stewart Cink took the words right out of my mouth.

The TPC mess prompted reader Carl to write, "lets face it, the golf ball has taken all of the imagination out of the game, and has taken the imagination out of golf course design. The high quality of different shot selections and the high quality of course design is bending over backwards to accomedate a golf ball."

Methinks that execution-style should be reserved for the pinheads in the governing bodies who've lost control of the ball, and the game, in favor of equipment companies. . . in my concedely unbalanced opinion.
