Add A Courtesy Car To Rory's Stolen Loot!

Rory's right, the media is to blame for his lousy reputation. They report his most basic activities!

From Doug Ferguson's story we learn he not only made off with $170,000, but also seems to have taken his Buick Enclave to LAX without telling anyone. Think he left it at the curb? Lot C? The In-and-Out parking lot?

A locker room attendant, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information, said Sabbatini cleaned out his locker on Saturday afternoon and gave away sweaters and shoes. He told them he was headed to Hawaii, where he spends his Christmas vacation.

His agent, Bud Martin, said Sabbatini told him he withdrew because of shin splints.

``He had shin splints that were bothering him yesterday,'' Martin said after talking to Sabbatini on Sunday. ``He went home overnight and worked on them with his trainer, and they weren't getting any better. He said he wasn't going to risk it.''

Tournament director Greg McLaughlin wasn't informed until 8:30 a.m., although he had a hunch Sabbatini was leaving when he was checking out of the hotel and overheard the concierge trying unsuccessfully to book Sabbatini a limo for eight to get to the airport.

``We're disappointed that he withdrew,'' McLaughlin said. ``It's the first time in the history of the event that we've ever had a professional not complete four rounds of competition.''

By Sunday afternoon, McLaughlin still could not locate Sabbatini's courtesy car. Paul Casey said he saw the South African loading up the car in the hotel parking lot.

how bout a pool on where the car is?

my guess is the impound lot at LAX, after being towed from curbside at the hawaii terminal.

second guess is the signature FBO.

Assuming that driving the car to LAX in this way was not authorized by whatever courtesy use agreement Sabbatini signed (I assume they make the pros sign something), the tournament director would be within his rights to press charges for unauthorized use of a vehicle. It would be amusing if Sabbatini had to stay out of California to avoid arrest. Hey, this would give them an incentive to invite him back!

What was the risk if he played? Would his legs fall off?

A hothead with a big yap, he has already gotten too much publicity and most of it has nothing to do with his golf scores.

OK, so he was "injured". That's no excuse to act like a spoiled a-hole. Grow up, Rory.

Shin splints? Jesus, Rory, it's not like you fight Muay Thai. Pop a couple of Advil and get on the tee.

Oh, well...as my daddy is fond of sayin': you can't polish a turd.

TMac-

I like a similar version of your dad's saying, "Polish a turd, it's still a turd".

Rory has (yet again) shown his true colors. A poorly behaved man playing a gentlemen's game. He should be embarassed for his departure, not his poor 3-day scoring. This is a charity event, for goodness sakes.

Yes, I know that the players don't go home broke, but there is still the matter of honor when playing in any event, especially this one.

It will be curious how the TV Brigade (Clampett and clan) treat him in future broadcasts.

I loved Rory when he abandonded Ben Crane, and have generally found his candour refreshing. However, at this point, he really is an arse. It's too bad - the tour needs fast players, and guys who give good quote once in a while. I no longer consider him a likable imp.

I don't mind if they keep showing his wife on TV though. I'm not heartless.

Damn, I going to Hawaii this week, I hope I don't run into him ...

at this point, i'd bet Rory is wearing a Bill Clinton rubber mask in public.

I heard Tiger wants hom out of the Nike fold.

I loved Rory's one man crusade against slow play but he's off my Xmas card list now. What an idiot - withdrawing from a 16 player invitational and a charity one at that! Wouldn't be surprised if Nike drop him at the first opportunity.

He is switching to Adams when his Nike contract expires at the end of the year. With so many players switching these days, it is hard to guess whether it is Nike or Rory's decision.

Curtis Strange did the exact same thing at the 1991 Phoenix Open after three putting the 72nd hole and watching Nolan Henke in the next group sink a 15 footer for birdie and the win. Some luck SkyCap at Phoenix International ended up with a brand new Buick.

Rory reminds me of Curtis Strange, sort of a racist elitest attitude where empathy for others is nonexistant.

Not needed is for you to describe Stange and Sabbatini as "racist elitists".

What does this have to do with racism? Are you own biases showing?

This is a regular occurrence on tour, not an anomaly.

Players leave cars at airports, give them to caddy's to use, drive them to the next stop, etc...

...happens all the time.

Tournament Directors don't give a sh*t about something like this, they have someone working for them that will chase the car down and it's just not that big a deal.

Belive I said "sort of", as in here's 100 dollars sky cap return my car for me I'm in too big of a hurry to do it myself. Your right racist is "sort of" the wrong analogy, but elitist is spot on. Abandoning a courtsey car curb side at an airport is the most egregiously elitest act I can think of, there is nothing courteous about this act.
