FedEx Cup (Not) On Their Minds

Damon Hack (here) and Doug Ferguson (here) both cover the Washington D.C.-reduced field story, with not a single player expressing concern about the limited field eliminating a key week for some to pick up valuable FedEx Cup points.

Just amazes me how these players fail to grasp the real meaning of tour golf.

Just a thought, if the Tour is split 50/50 then Finchem shouldn't sweat a membership vote, as should Phil Mickelson. It's been stated by Finchem many times that it's the PLAYER'S TOUR. It only makes sense to see the membership decide instead of Finchem's bully pulpit Policy Board.

If Ilm reading between the lines correctly in Rich Beem's quotes he's "insulted" because the Pac Board voted not to reduce FedUp Cup playoff tournaments until the Tour Championship and Finchem's BP trumped that vote and decided to do their own thing which was to reduce starts so they could claim it to be a playoff. After having that Pac Board vote tossed back in their face here comes The Timmy and Policy Board in tow to toss yet another reduced field in the Pac's face saying TAKE THAT!

Won't this emergency Pac Board meeting be interesting, my suggestion to Finchem, make sure the players are sold on your ideas before you sale them to people like FedEx otherwise don't be surprised when players revolt. The Pac and membership have the leverage, and appears Beem is preparing to rally the troops.

Beemer is not a push over, Tiger felt that effect a couple years ago at the PGA Championship.

I love Beem, but he cash grabbed his way around the globe after winning the PGA and hasn't really been a factor since. Now that his exemption is in jeopardy he comes to the course with his lunch pail, thermos and Nature Valley visor? Eat your heart out Fulton Allem.

Phil is right on about the opposite events.

Play well and earn your spot. Otherwise, do a Monday outing and gear up for the Fall Finish to gather the coins in Tiger's piggy bank.

How come nobody complains that the AT&T has a field of 180?

The Hack article does a better job of explaining about the desire to reduce the field.

By the way, don’t some tournaments reduce the number of tickets sold? I would think that would be controversial.
