Bag Abuse=Character?

David Feherty, interviewing Boo Weekley after chipping in on the last two holes to win the Heritage, noted that Weekley is not the typical Tour drone because of his "bag abuse" and that it was "great to see some character out here."

Is that really a sign of great character?

Well if he said "great to see some character" you could take that to mean he is a character meaning he has some personality showing through. Your take seems to be that he meant showing great character which is something different entirely.

Mr. Jenkins quotes the last two days have also illustrated a lack of sophistication about the sport.

Consider the source. David Feherty as a judge of "character"?

As in Tommy Bolt was a character. I thought it was the best regular tournament of the year.

Not removing your dip before your post round interview definitely shows character.

I'm a fan!

Yes, that's counts as character. These days anything is better than nothing.

Assuming that bag abuse relates to striking one's golf bag, as opposed to one's bride, since I have been guilty of the former on more than one occasion and never had one of the latter, I'm a fan too! There's an art to burying a wedge, with the shaft quivering as the player stalks up the fairway.

Abusing the turf is an infantile act signifying a class act, all low.

When we are privledged to see these so called professionals abusing mama erta, the golf gods are soon to exact their revenge. Just ask el tigre.

Another thing I noticed about our Boo buddy - he can hold his own against Tiger and Sergio is a spittin' contest.

I see I've been upgraded, to low class. My Dad always used to tell me that my on course behavior was like school on a Saturday -- no class. Sorry Dad, but there's just times that a club needs to be buried. Keeps the rest of them in line, you know what I mean?

There's huge difference between having character, and being a charfacter.

Methinks Mr. Fair-Tea was referring to the later.

Yes Feherty is absolutely right!! This is a sign of good character. It's also a sign that Boo doesn't take any of those performance enhancing (or un-enhancing) beta blockers that just make you a blah unemotional robot. Want to guess on what % of current PGA Tour members use or have used these drugs?? Being that I know you like stats I'll bet 31.3%.
