Johnny Apologizes!

This Richard Sandomir follow-up on Johnny's apology over the Rocco-as-pool-cleaner-remark almost reads like something out of The Onion. And speaking of The Onion, reader Jon shares this fresh game story from the satirical rag.

Johnny Miller should just apologize for being a terrible broadcaster and retire. I have not met one person who likes Miller and almost every person I have watched a golf match with laughs and makes fun at his ridiculous comments. His opinion is not respected and not needed

I think that Miller is a very good golf analyst; however I don't think that he is a particularyly good broadcaster. As an analyst, he offers great insight about strategic design of the golf course and the mindset players must use to conquer that course. It is as a broadcaster that he must be much more careful in his descriptions, similes, and comparisons. He truly did offer two derogatory comments about Rocco Mediate and Miller's apologies are appreciated. I hope that he repeats the apology on his next NBC telecast.

Don[t think he apologizes unless pressured to by special interest groups (Italian American groups wrote to Ebersol of NBC)...it's pretty harmless really, but not very well chosen.

I agree Miller has not kept his freshness lately but he gets by on his good rep mainly now...he's been doing it nearly 20 years now tough to stay fresh!!

I think he's been scared/scarred by all the criticism (from players and tour types mainly, not from general media which still praises him) and thus tries to "force'' his commentary sometimes, then he missteps or misspeaks...

Still better than Venturi ever was, just not as fun as Zinger/Faldo were for ABC...props to Mark Loomis ex-ABC producer who brought that duo together. Faldo alone not nearly as effective.

Miller once shot 63 on US Open Sunday at Oakmont and took the title.

Talk about a mountain out of a mole hill. Honestly, who was offended by Miller's comments? It's complete PC nonsense.

I wasn't aware that Italians made up a significant percentage of the pool-cleaning industry.

For me the broadcasting standard is quite a bit higher than the "what you'd say in your living room" standard, so Johnny's remarks were in poor taste.

Perhaps it's because I'm a high school teacher and the father of 7- and 9-year-old daughters, but I think the comment WAS demeaning, as if Rocco is a less-worthy person based on his looks or demeanor.

Johnny should stick to what he's good at, namely, analysis, and leave the entertainment to others. And if he must issue an apology, he should do it promptly

I'll mute him and his ass-kissin' gang as usual, so I won't hear the apology, if there is one.

Why is it when someone makes a mistake everybody has to get themselves bent out of shape instead of just saying the guy made a mistake and letting go? The guineas/wops and pool boy union should get over it!
