Pavin Consulting Azinger?

A reader says he thought (but wasn't totally sure) that he heard Paul Azinger say during Thursday's Presidents Cup broadcast that U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin has not talked to him about the Ryder Cup. Did anyone else hear this?

I heard Zinger say that, as well. Maybe Pavin will talk with Paul later or maybe Corey wants to take credit or blame for doing it his way.

Azinger said (somewhat derisively I felt) Pavin hadn't talked to him at all. The comment made when a shot of Pavin on course at Harding was on screen.

Thanks guys...that's absolutely stunning to me.

I head it also and it certainly seemed that Zinger was both amazed and perturbed. My question is : WHY ? Good golly, we're more than a YEAR away, the 2010 season has yet to unfold and Azinger -- among others -- believes that Pavin should already be calling Genius Paul for advice? Please.

There's no doubt that Azinger's "pod" approach during practice rounds was a benefit but that's no big secret, either. How about Pavin checking in with Zinger a few months down the road when he actually has a handle on who might be on the team and who's down in standings but still playing well in 2010 --- thus getting in line for a Captain's Pick.

My advice to Azinger: keep that cell phone off while you're still up in the booth; Corey doesn't need any advice just yet.

Can't Z dial a phone?
Talking about it in public...
I think he is taking out his hurt feelings of not being reelected on Pavin.
Not a fair move.
cheers

Geoff - "stunning" to you...which way ? That Pavin hadn't talked to Azinger ? Or that Azinger would give a snotty comment about Pavin not talking to him ?

What's stunning is that Azinger actually think his "captaincy" contributed to the Ryder Cup victory. It's the players, goofball. And frankly, when it came down to it in Ryder Cup play, I'm going with Pavin every time.

But . . . But . . . Zinger knows how to get the best out of the American players. . . Haven't you been watching/listening to his Prexy Cup coverage? . . . Faldo has been pretty quiet - clearly he realizes he is in the presence of the Lombardi of the golf world! . . . Zinger knows - you don't even have to ask - he will tell you. . .

I don't think Azinger necessarily even pushed the U.S. over the edge, but I think it's going too far to say he contributed NOTHING to the victory, either.
