Rory Coming To America!

Not a banner day for the European Tour as Adam Scott is not pleased about a possible rule change and Rory McIlroy finally made the decision to play 15 PGA Tour events in 2010, meaning he'll need to add four weeks to his 2009 schedule.

'I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea that I am just going away to  America because that is not what I am planning,' said McIlroy.

'I just feel that I will become a better golfer if I also play in  America.  I will be playing in world-class fields with more world ranking points on offer, and the only way for me to get better is to play alongside better players.

'And on paper at this moment there are 16 better players than me in the world.”

As a US Tour member McIlroy will have to play a minimum 15 events on  their schedule but they include the four Majors and three World Golf Championships that are currently held in the States.

Smart choice, Rory. With your US card, you can trick an elderly billionaire into giving you $1.5m in NZ next year, rather than Hunter Mahan.

Be interested to see how long the 'working-class Belfast kid' look lasts, or whether we see a clean-cut, 'Holywood to Hollywood' rebranding of him.

Top players complaining about playing seven months out of the year instead of six - I feel SO bad for Adam Scott.

Of the required 15 PGA Tour events, at least 10 are pre-set (majros, WGC's, 2 invitationals and The Players), then add 3 or 4 FEC playoff tournaments and they have to plan for 2 or 3 whole weeks during the year.

Euro Tour guys get the majors, and WGC's - that's 8, everybody plays the week before the British, some stay for the week after, add the desert swing in January, and Asia this time of year and you're easily over the requirements for both tours.

I don't blame any of these guys for choosing the PGA Tour over the Euro Tour. Less travel, more consistent courses, more money - but it can't be an easy decision.

Rory in America! . . . Exciting for us - maybe not so much for Rickie Fowler 2.0? . . . The market for young nice looking guys might now be saturated - the crowds will gravitate to the best player and the evidence is clear that Rory is a really really good player. . .

What about Sergio?

'The only way for me to get better is to play alongside better players'.
Classic.
Presumably Rors (or more likely his management company) thought that fronting up to Tiger in a heatwave on a classic course was less likely to aid his development than chasing a load of cash in Hong Kong?
Best of luck young man, only hope the results are more akin to Paddy Harrington's than GMac's.
