Listen To The Tiger Woods 9-1-1 Tape

Very confusing as you can imagine when there's a shocking accident and at that hour. As always the operators are impressively calm and professional. Is there a part about midway through where we hear Tiger's mom, Kultida saying "What happened?" (I hope not for her sake, because no mother should have to go through that kind of scare.)

Here it is for download.

TMZ.com offers it here.

golf.com posts it here.

Nice of the neighbour not to identify the victim. I'm sure there is no shortage of crackpots with Coast to Coast Am and a police scanner on at all hours.

The accident pictures suggest he hit at a good clip.

The statement is at least a day late.

A lot has been redacted from the tape. One would think that either the Windermere Police, or TMZ, has edited it. Typical things to be redacted would be things like other witness names, witness telephone numbers, addresses, etc. That's what appears to be going on here.

It's possible that there may have been just a bit more that was said, but redacted.

just so we're clear chuck, was it redacted?

At this very moment, armed IMG Agents in armored vehicles are carrying the "Missing 18 Minutes of Tape" to the National Archives where it will be released to the public in the year 2109.... I for one hope I'm not around to hear it!

Also of note: (with joking aside) where is all of the water from the broken fire hydrant? Go here to look at the photos from the crash site: http://tinyurl.com/yl284yn

Clearly, Raj, I think the 911 tape was redacted. Don't you? I think it was redacted in the way that is routine in such cases. The same way that uninvolved witnesses' names addresses and telephone numbers are blacked-out in photocopies from police records that one might obtain through a FOIA request.

So, yes, I think it is abundantly clear; the tapes were redacted. I don't see anything sinister in that, however. All that I wonder is whether, in the process of taking out the (calling) neighbor's name, address, and telephone number, they alos deleted any reference to Elin, others, etc. And even that redaction is arguably correct, insofar as she too was an apparent witness and not a subject of the investigation.

The funny thing is, a clerk in the Windermere P.D., trying to do the ordinary taks of redacting other-witness references, probably had no idea that a bunch of golf nuts would immediately recognize the voice of Kultida Woods on the tape. They might have redacted that too if they had known what we know. Or not. I'm not claiming to know the job of the Windermere Police better than they do. I just started off with the observation -- as we see in lots of similar cases, this 911 tape is redacted. There is more info there, we just don't know what it is.

Wait, Tiger's mom is that woman who yells "What Happened?" That certainly adds a wrinkle to things.

goirish96, that hasn't been substantiated.

I sure hope it wasn't Tiger's mom. This all is so tragic. I wish we could just hit system restore, and Tiger could keep it in his pants.

I'd say it's likely that Tiger's mom would be with him on the night after Thanksgiving.

Chuck, I think they automatically redact the name/address/phone number of the caller. As for Kultida, you are right, they just didn't know better on how distinctive her voice is --- and while it's not confirmed, I'd make a wager that it is her voice.

Now Peter Vescey, he'll probably redact his column from the NY Post yesterday, they ran a comment about the Buick/Cadillac issue completely unaware that Tiger's Buick contract ended over a year ago: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports/no_for_an_answer_dgccoQSokGTVTQOwqoLZXI/1

Don't they check facts?
