Announcer List For Masters Is Missing...

...a major, major lost ball finder.

Look, I figure it's best to deal with this gut wrenching news now so that you can gather your emotions in time for Thursday...

For the 24th consecutive year Jim Nantz will cover the Masters for CBS (his 22nd year as host). He also handles coverage of the Highlight Shows, originating from Butler Cabin on the grounds of Augusta National. Three-time Masters winner Nick Faldo joins Nantz in the 18th hole tower as lead analyst. Peter Oosterhuis will describe the action at the 17th hole; Verne Lundquist, the 16th hole; David Feherty, the 15th hole and Highlight Shows; Bill Macatee, the 14th hole; Peter Kostis, the 13th hole; and Ian Baker-Finch will tell the story at the 11th and 12th holes. Billy Kratzert and Ian Eagle return along with Matt Gogel to call the live streaming video action for Amen Corner Live and 15 & 16 Live.

That's right, no Bobby Clampett. No Hogan's Bridge references, no smooching up to Masters brass about the wonderful changes on No. 11, no weather lingo and yes, no racial slurs.

what about the funeral music? or does it go the way of the Clampett?

Was he on the telecast last year?
All I remember was him on the Amen Corner Live stream. He didn't even have a co host to make conversation with. It was just hours and hours on Bobby talking to himself. Kinda spooky.

He was only online last year dbh. That's where the racial slur incident occurred.

And in 2010 he joins the Champions Tour. Let us hope that that also reduce his announcing duties.

They should put Feherty and a surreptitious bottle of Jameson either in the tower with Faldo and Nantz or at Amen Corner.

The Jameson may really not be necessary, come to think of it.

I was hoping that Clark Kellogg would replace Clampett.

i'm just glad to not have to listen to Johnny Miller this week.

Ditto, brother. He's killing me...

In a time that find The Masters twittering, I thought they might finally let McCord back in.

RM,

Didn't I read somewhere that Augusta lifted the McCord ban, but he chooses not to cover it? Agreed that the coverage would improve if he was there.

Jordan, I don't know, you may be right. perhaps I'm a bit sentimental, but I like CBS's coverage of The Masters. There seems to be some pretty darn good commentary accompanying most of the historic shots. I mean, does it get any better than "In you're life, have you seen anything like that?"
04.6.2009 | Unregistered CommenterRM
Why all the Clampett bashing? He never bothered me and I would take him any day of the week over Koch, Maltbie, Miller, Hicks and anyone else on NBC for that matter.

IBF in the tower on 12 is a highlight for me. Can't wait. Three sleeps to go.

I will miss Bobby's flora references.

I like Clampett because he was a young phenom when I was first golfing and watching golf. I know that defies logic, but we all get sentimental as we age.

My sentimentality extends to the event. As much as some of the Masters crap grates, and I miss the roars, I still get excited for the event. It is particularly divine when it coincides with a four day weekend up here. Play 54 holes, cook a ham, time with the kids, chase Mrs. Tighthead and watch the Masters.

Spring has sprung.

I've had the same dressing gown since Greg Norman started losing the Masters. It's 29 years old (but I do wash it most decades). It kept me warm all those cold autumn mornings in Melbourne as the chill wind of human failure swept across the room at around 7.30am Monday morning.

Tighthead, I'm as sentimental as you, I expect. To me, the Masters is all about the dressing gown. No announcer can take that from me.

It's out and ready to go.

"chase mrs tighthead"?!!? too much info.
04.6.2009 | Unregistered Commentersergio
Clampett's gone? Does anyone really believe he added anything to the broadcast. Rest of broadcast team is already A caliber and there's no room for mediocrity. For those who are bothered by Johnny Miller - what's the problem? Johnny tells it like it is and everyone else on his broadcast team are interchangeable and could be easily replaced. If Johnny should ever leave, the void would be as big as the one when Cosell left MNF.

dare i ask, what did clampett say that was offensive?
04.6.2009 | Unregistered CommenterJim
The CBS crew is quite professional . . . and boring. . . What about the ESPN guys - we have to listen to them for 3 days (Par 3 on Wednesday.)

michael:

did you really just equate Johnny Miller to a (if not THE) legend in sports broadcasting?? seriously?

and that Michaels guy did ok with MNF, didn't he?
04.6.2009 | Unregistered CommenterSergio
what tighthead said (except i chase mrs. thusgone).

Has anybody noticed how (by the standards of television analysts) Faldo really is a pretty good story teller? Very witty, dry in the British sense. Very observant. Sometimes, when he's paired with Nantz, I get the feeling Nantz is so used to speaking in trite truisms, he has no idea that Faldo is, in fact, making a witty observation and Nantz is left with his arms at his side unwilling or unable to counter-punch. Yeah, Nantz has that great set of pipes, but he needed a co-author on a book about him and his father. What's up with that?

Clampett is gone? And apparently so is Mark Rolfing ( I know, he's an NBC guy)...something about an "incident" at Bay Hill and directly into rehab, do not Pass Go.

Jim Nantz is the personification of toasted wonder bread.
