Dottie's Commish Picks

There's a common theme among Dottie's three picks for LPGA Commish: they all know golf and have had their hand in the business side of the sport too. What a concept.

What a unique concept, actually hiring someone who knows the sport! Who would have ever thunk it!

I was thinking Julie Inkster.

How many successful COO's are intimately involved with the actual products their companies sell? Zero. (Except Gates and other computer nerds)

The more you know about golf and the past of the LPGA, the more you should be NOT considered for the job.

CV:
1. Cannot break 125
2. Deaf. Cannot hear workers LPGA players) complain all day
3. Will only accept 10-year contract with $20m buyout clause

Vince, I disagree with that...

a) There are plenty of CEO's who know their space extremely well and have done a terrific job for their companies. Are you saying you'd rather have Carly Fiorina than Michael Dell, Eric Schmidt, or Steve Jobs running your Tech company?

b) The LPGA is a unique "product" right now. It is critical to get buy-in from Tournament directors and players, and the only way to do that is to hire someone who already has those relationships & can hit the "reset" button on all the damage Bivens caused in her tenure.

i nominate 'the donald," for the following reasons:

1. it'll (hopefully) keep himm away from the us open;
2. he generates buzz, which the lpga sorely needs;
3. it'll (hopefully) keep him away from the us open;
4. he satisfies both david's and vince's qualitfications, depending on whom you believe as to hi knowledge and golfing ability.

Methinks Vince has hit on a big reason the overall economy is in a death spiral. In my particular field (sort of) it is no coincidence that Big Pharma has become ostensibly more profitable, while at the same time becoming more concentrated and less sustainable, as the marketing "experts" have taken over...At some point one more boner pill (thanks, Geoff!) or cholesterol drug just won't make any difference to our health or their bottom line.

thusgone does make a good case for The Donald...but regarding #1 and #3 surely the USGA wouldn't let him near the Open? Would they? Oh, never mind.
The Donald may have a tough time lavishing his typical praise on EACH tour stop, though...each one will have to have its own claim to fame as the most expensive in some way...I can see it now...

"We spent more money on the ropes at the State Farm classic than any event in golf history, using the world's finest organic hemp from Namibia" or "We paid Corning over $15,000 for each handcrafted porcelain tee marker for this year's event."

david: that's exactly why the donald is so perfect. he is not constrained by such petty niceties as the truth or intellectual consistency.

Dottie just keeps getting better -- imagine that, not excluding 50% of the general population, and way more than 50% of the qualified candidates, from consideration.

I wonder if the board is acting similarly??

The Donald doesn't have time to run the LPGA. This organization needs someone that is focused on this, and only this, 100% of the time.

Vince, you should adopt the Constanza Principle, namely, do the opposite.

Deane Beman, he put the PGA Tour on EXTREMELY SOLID footing, no??

Hey Steven T. stop thinking, it's dangerous.

Inkster is a player, get it - a player. You want to hand over a company in deep, deep trouble to the control of someone with absolutely zero experience running/marketing a business like this? Why? Because she's a good player who's smart and has some class? Hardly a reason to be chief executive. Spokesperson and advisor maybe, but CEO?
