Seve Again Vows To Be At St. Andrews

Poignant comments in this unbylined report:

He said: "With putting, Ihave to make a mark on the ball then use it to line up the putter. I've also lost the perception of distance for long putts.

"But if things go normally, which Ihope they will, Iwill be there at the Open to say goodbye and thank you for what you have done throughout the years."

He added: "Probably some people will feel sorry for me and maybe cry, but Ifeel happy. I am a very lucky person because throughout life Ihave had so many great moments. Ifeel Ihave lived two or three lives."

Oh Boy,
Being British and knowing our affection for Seve despite all he has done to erode it, I suspect that this could the THE ultimate Open sentimental moment - Jack and Arnie on the bridge included.
I'll order the kleenex asap.

If he's there then I will be too!Despite a massive persecution complex he is by far the mosy exciting golfer I've ever had the privelege to see.A genuine superstar!Don't think the R and A will have to worry about attendances either!

Seve's making a big, big mistake. He can't hit the ball straight and now he admits he can't putt. I bet the London bookies will be offering an under-over of 95 for the first round. And I'd be taking the over.

Sevvy's score will be totally irrelevant. Along with Tom Watson, he is Britain's favourite golfing (adopted) son. He is the Arnold Palmer of European golf and there won't be a dry eye in the house as he crosses the Swilken bridge for a final time.

Scott-what the hell does it matter?Seve is the most important European player of the modern era and he has earnt his farewell.Thank goodness the Rand A STILL ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN.I agree his score is irrellevant but I bet he gives 100% on every shot

Don't forget -- Seve will be an honoree at Murifield Village next year as well. Maybe he will realize that all he needs to do is to show up at the event, and not put a tee in the ground, to get the recognition he surely deserves.

"Good - I go get my left-handed clubs."
