"I [kept] thinking it didn't happen, after it happened. I'm like, there's no way that just happened"

Thanks to reader Jim for this $1 million hole in one winner. Love the reaction where Jason Hargett makes like Usain Bolt.

The bad news...he's now ineligible for The Walker Cup.

Holy cow - is that a 9 foot giant that looks like Johnny Miller near the end of the video?

Is it annuity or all cash?

By the way, Red Ledges is another new Nicklaus high end golf community: www.redledges.com

For all the bad stuff in golf that makes us pissy, this one actually made me smile. The sprint is especially good.

RM, for some reason I thought there was some rule change in the Am status stuff that exempted events like this where it is primarily a challenge involving luck. I could easily be wrong, but for some goofy reason, I thought it stuck in my head as a rule change they made after that city champ in St. Petersburg (or wherever), lost his status after taking a Buick off Tiger in that commercial.

Taylor...LOL...I wondered the same thing...I was thinking the guy who made the ace must be only 4'6", but that's not the case.

Anyone else notice the scruffyness of the make shift driving range green? WOW what a shot and fortunate roll.

The giant is Mark Eaton of the Utah Jazz...who is a giant.

The O, you may be right about amateur status. Makes sense. And I smiled also, love the sprint for confirmation.

RM, on our local tour we pay $3 to get into the hole in one pot. A guy won last Saturday for a little over $6k, but he does NOT lose his amateur standing. I have confirmed this with the USGA on the oft chance that I can score an ace for cash too. . .

Mark Eaton - good catch. I figured since it was in Utah, there was a chance that a Johnny Miller giant could be wandering around the mountains.

So, I looked it up, here's what the USGA says in its Am Status FAQs:

The Exception applies to a hole-in-one made "while playing golf," a phrase that includes situations where the hole-in-one is incidental to a round of golf (including a partial round).

For example, a prize won for a hole-in-one must still conform to the prize limit of a retail value of $750 in the following formats:

A contest in which a player is allowed more than one opportunity on a hole to win the prize;
A contest conducted other than at a golf course (e.g., a simulator or driving range);
A putting contest.

So, Smolmania, your guy might would be ok, this guy however might be in trouble since it appears to be a driving range. Unless this guy is a serious competitive Am player, he'll probably be ok with that anyway. Frankly, I am a serious competitive player and somewhere around a million is about where I would be ok with being a "pro". Nike, are you listening?

I'd turn pro for a million, and then donate some of the money to science to find a cure for MarK Eaton's height

Someone from the charity should've asked him on camera how much he'd be donating to the diabetes fund!!!

Nice to see the world's tallest man there as well!
