"There is not 20 percent growth in the game of golf to be had in the U.S. or U.K., in my humble opinion. Out here there is."

I know what you're thinking. Who said that, Mark King, CEO of Taylor Made? Wally Uihlein, head of Acushnet? Maybe George Fellows, CEO of Callaway in a conference call with shareholders?

Uh, try te R&A's Peter Dawson, as quoted in Dan Washburn's Golf World story on the Asian Amateur (not posted).

At the tournament's opening press conference Dawson proclaimed "the game is moving east" and the "balance of the game of golf is going to swing permanently." He later told Golf World, "There is not 20 percent growth in the game of golf to be had in the U.S. or U.K., in my humble opinion. Out here there is."

It would be nice for growth of the game if lots of "playable" (low cost - simple design) golf courses were built in Asian nations. It could set an example for the U.S. how to actually grow the game. . . Is there any chance of that or will this just be more trophy courses for the emerging Asian mega rich?

@WR: No chance. Yes.
So let's join the industry and take our bloated, resource-consuming, greedy model,with all the amentiy/techno overkill associated with it , right on over there and really crap it up...is that it Peter. Pathetic clown, and he's got plenty of company in the rudderless, excuses for leadership that sadly help ruin the game.
