2010 Northern Trust Final Round

I'm on the course so consider this your open microphone. Johnny Miller griping welcomed (expected), too.

Watching NBC coverage after digging out of 30 inches of snow in Northern VA. Looks to be very few people on the course at Riveria. Pretty good field. Appears the economy and the ticket price increase has kept the gallery way down.

Geoff, if you get to watch a replay of the full telecast later, get a load of the NBCprogramming-promo that Dan Hicks does for Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming NBS series called (I think?) "The Marriage Referee" (Do I have that right?) Anyway, the promo comes when the Stricker/Donald/Holmes group is on 10. Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller were beside themselves, laughing about how some people might need a marriage referee, prompting Dan Hicks to say, "That's why I do the promos, John..."

Does it seem like every time Phil MIckelson gets hyped up, he falls flat on his face? He's been saying that he is playing the best golf of his life and he is hitting the ball 20 yards further then ever before and Stockton's got him putting like a champ and ker-plop another dud performance.

Stricker appears to be running away with this thing...and good for him...but why not more media buzz about him. Perhaps he is indeed the second best player in the world.

I would ask why you are not live tweeting but I think Alan S.'s experience answered that question. Do people think this is in the bag ? From T.V's perspective, there is a lack of energy.

How does Stricker hit the ball tour type distances without a wrist cock?

Stricker will probably hold on to win this thing, but he does seem to often leak a lot of oil down the stretch when in contention, whether in victory or defeat.

MRP - How does Mickelson rate not one but two shots of him just signing autographs? Nevermind. If the audience didn't get the hint the first time, we were told what to think the second time. Phil Mickelson; Number 2 in your program and Number 1 in our hearts.

I'm watching Hoarders instead. This woman had two dead and dried-up cats in her house and she didn't even know it! Steve Stricker ... Jimmy Roberts vomitous musings .... or the shenanigans of a woman with 3,000 pounds of crap in her den? This is a whole lot more interesting!

Too bad for you Miss Priss. You missed the up to date FedEx Cup standings.

Phoney Phil Phlubs again. Such a ninny.
Maybe he should have used his cheating club.
Or, maybe, he needs a few more coaches........Is Hank available???

PGA Tour on TV is so over produced. Show more golf. Tell announcers to talk less.

euro tour coverage much better IMO

Yeah, Phil talks too much sometimes, both before and after the fact. But I'll take that compared to the usual fare from the usual touring professional. And FWIW (no, not our FWIW) he has won 37 times on TOUR with 4 majors to his credit. And he doesn't spit, throw clubs, or drop F-bombs at will on the course. Not too shabby, really.
Since most people credit Phil with three majors, I'm curious as to what are you counting as Phil's fourth major: his 1990 U.S. Amateur win or his 2007 Players Championship win?

Watched the golf last night after 12 months self imposed exile from Sky Sports-and it hasnt improved much has it?!Too many ad breaks.too much putting and J B HOLMES SHOU;D BE SHOT!Not that he,d be much fun as a target at that pace.

taffy ... notwithstanding John Morgan! Did you not hear him let slip "poor bu***r" when talking about Luke Donald's wrist injury? What made it so funny was that having committed to phrasing his comment in the way he did, he remembered too late that he couldn't use words like that and it kind of petered out towards the inevitable and unstoppable language equivalant of watching a train crash in slow motion. Hilarious!
equivalent! Just as well I'm not a porof raedre, aint it?
@ Tom: 1990 US Amateur. It's not the same as it was when Bob Jones won it 5 times, but it is still a major golf championship. As is the British Amateur. Which means that when (yeah, right) Sergio wins his first Major as a professional, that will give him two for the books. But your mileage may vary.

02.7.2010 | Unregistered Commenter Scott

Scott . . . Stricker's wrists do cock - but it is done very late in his backswing . . . The late hinge on the backswing is found in many very long hitters (e.g., Bubba Watson, Jamie Sadlowski) but they have a very full hinge at the top whereas Stricker, J.B. Holmes and others "downcock" (increase the amount of hinge) starting back down. . . Jim McLean wrote an article about it a few months ago in Golf Digest.
