Mark O'Meara Doesn't Make List Of Favorite Irish Golfers

A devastating blow on St. Patrick's Day and on the eve of the Tavistock Cup, so soon after learning Tiger passed up on playing there.

Tom Cunneff lists his favorite Irish golfers...from the Republic. Not from southern California.

Uh, Tom ... you didn't mention why you liked them. Great records, sure, but what about a bit or two, mate, about their shenanigans?

Hard to take this seriously when he can't even spell O'Connor...or include any of the many fine players from Ulster, a list that includes an Open champion!

as our irish-born receptionist sneered at me today, "yes, all you americans think you're irish."

I'm plenty Irish, but all this green font is making me queasy!

Just seeing if you're paying attention, hibbyfan. Thanks for the catch. Golfers from NI would make up a whole other list.
Tom.

The point is that, in golfing terms, neither the republic nor Ulster exists......no one has ever played for either.
03.17.2010 | Unregistered Commenterhibbyfan
Not true to say that Ulster does not exist in golfing terms. Its a branch of the Golfing Union of ireland - each of the four provinces have their own branch of the GUI and representative golf is played at an inter-provincial level. Ireland team members are selected from all four provinces so golf is, like rugby, truly an all Ireland sport.

I'm getting an Ulster from all this. Please.

to oxfordetc...which is my point.

T'is a sad day, it is, when not an O'Hair or an O'Hern can make his way to this foolish list. Not a McCarron or a McGovern. And not even a mention there is for some of my favorite Irish golfers. I'm speaking, of course, of Rock O'Mediate and Geoff O'Gilvey. And is it not too much to mention Serge O'Garcia?

Am off to say a rosary for the health of that noble son of the sod, Joe Mary O'Lazabal.

@Claude - I just spit coffee on myself reading this. Nice.

Fred Daly, Open Champion in 1947, didn't make the list?
