Mission accomplished!

Thanks to reader Darren for this March 12th Mike Peters cartoon after it got out that Tiger is employing former press secretary Ari Fleischer.

Geoff,
John Feinstein did his own unhinged rant with respect to Ari Fleischer on Golf Channel. When it was done, and he threw it back to Kelly Tilghman, she had to practically pinch herself to avoid saying, "Viewers can send their written complaints to JohnFeinstein@...."

There's no limit to the self-inflicted damage by Team Tiger. But the attackers of Ari Fleishcer might be surprised to find how little overlap there is between "golf viewers" and MSNBC.

Just last night, I saw (proving myself wrong) Lawrence O'Donnell, subbing for Keith Olbermann, interviewing the Washington Post's liberal columnist Eugene Robinson about Tiger at the Masters (Robinson, who plays golf -- uh oh, disproving myself once again -- gave a decent interview). At the conclusion of the interview, O'Donnell thanked Robinson for what he said was the longest conversation he had ever had on the subject of golf.

Did Ari Fleischer actually have anything to do with the "Mission Accomplished" banner hung above the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln as it steamed back into port in San Diego after serving successfully in the initial ground war phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom in which the thousands of sailors and Marines in the Lincoln's battle group had indeed, uh, accomplished their mission, and had done so most admirably...?

Just asking.

Chuck,
No I think it was more Karl Rove. But he was in the administration at the time, which was enough for the cartoon to give me a giggle. I'm easy that way though.

Forget about the specific provenance of the slogan/poster, it's undeniably a great cartoon.

Yes, Chuck, that is the "reason" given after the fact for the "Mission Accomplished" banner. Way after the fact. At some point it was even suggested that the sailors on the ship were responsible for it. But why was it that Commander Codpiece had to land on the carrier in a Navy jet, when the ship was close enough to shore that land was visible? That's what puzzles me...not.

Geoff, that cartoon is hilarious. Thanks for posting it.

Awesome! Loved this cartoon. Just as irrational and premature in this instance as it was the first time.

The cartoon is great. Says alot about Tiger and, perhaps, more about Fleisher. Fleisher is cashing checks at this point, but both Tiger and Ari are yet to prove that their not tone tone deaf.

Oh, Geoff, thanks for including it. As usual, superb editorial call.
