"I think at this point, it's getting a little late."

Rough day for Corey Pavin. First, his arch-media nemesis Alan Shipnuck compliments him, then Jack Nicklaus suggests the Ryder Cup captain needs "a brain scan" for suggesting that Tiger isn't a lock for the 2010 team, as Pavin's been saying the last few months about all of the potential captain's picks.

“Of course he should pick Tiger. The truth is that Tiger is going through some personal problems, which I’ve nothing to say about, and he’s also got some problems with his game, which he’s going to have to resolve himself. But Tiger will be in the team, I have no doubt.”

But I still can't figure this one out, from Jason Sobel's interview with Paul Azinger who says he made a late bid to be 2010 captain. But that's not what Azinger thinks is the reason Pavin hasn't called on the most recent winning captain for advice.

Q: I've read reports that current captain Pavin has yet to seek you out for any guidance or information. Is this true?

A: Yes.

Q: Are you surprised by that?

A: A little bit. I mean, all you need to do is just say, "If you have any ideas or suggestions whatsoever, just throw them my way. I'll be all ears." But I haven't heard anything like that. I know Corey was the assistant captain in 2006 and I think he was pretty close to getting the job in '08. I think he thought he was going to get it, but I stepped in and I lobbied pretty hard. I sold the whole Navy SEALs concept to Roger Warren, the president of the PGA at the time and the guy who was going to make the decision along with Brian Whitcomb, the incoming president. They loved it. And as a result, they asked me to be the guy. I don't know, I think it might have ticked him off a little bit, but that's just speculation.

Q: If he does come to you, what will you say to him?

A: I think at this point, it's getting a little late.

Oh poo, noses are out of joint. I smell a loss coming for Corey.

"America needed this"

What utter, complete crap.

I wonder what percentage of America watched or gave a rat's ass about an exhibition of 24 golfers knocking a little white ball around for a few days.

Tell you what, I "lobby" for spell check!

Fat Jack, YOU GO!

Seriously, look at Tiger's last 20 events on tour...6 wins, 15 top-10's...and thee thumper thump thump may consider leaving him off the team? Hey, don't shoot the messenger, shoot Fat Jack if you don't like it!!

thump thump!

Paul - Shut up and grow up. Your turn is over and we don't care.

"The American team got eleven nice guys, And Paul Azinger."

So...the truth is out. Pavin was wronged by Azinger in 2008. Is being the Captain of a Ryder Cup team that plays in the USA more lucrative than one that plays in Wales?

Waste of time (watching) but a great money maker template on many levels.

You want to talk about getting jobbed? Ask Larry Nelson!

Every time Azinger opens his mouth it seems something even more petty comes out. He resents Faldo on account of Sir Nick being a flat out better golfer, and now Pavin for not coming to him for his so-called secret (recently published for profit) of winning the Ryder Cup. Pavin would be best served to not give Azinger what he so desperately requires.

Wow another mock controversy disguised as legitimate news. Yawn.

I have to laugh at how self-important these guys are. These teams could play just fine without any captain at all, let alone calling the previous ones for advice or "thoughts" _ LOL.
The only advice the players need is, whatever you do don't swing the club like Paul Azinger. - unless you're in a sandtrap.

Am I sensing a growing indifference to the Ryder Cup? Or is it just the mood among this band of cynics -- oops, I mean, this band of hardy survivors.

I grew tired of the thing way back in the War by the Shore era. Perhaps it's because I like to watch great golf and not clumsy, pointless partisanship.
05.26.2010 | Unregistered CommenterClaude
Yes, a definite indifference to the RC in this corner.

The RC's main purpose is to fatten the ET's purse and give guys that will never win a major their moment in the sun.

I didn't watch a second of the last one plus Zinger turns me way off.

If Larry and others could leave their Bibles at home....

Although prayer for the US team couldn't hurt.

anybody have the real story on why Larry Nelson never got picked for captain?

and i too am sick of Azinger and his captaincy
05.26.2010 | Unregistered Commenterpt
Nelson never stooped to politicking and butt-kissing for the job.

He also is a better man than a lot of these pros who are about 1/16th of an inch deep.

Doesn't cheat, either.

I wanted to be impartial in this whole debate, so I went to amazon.com to see how the Azinger strategical juggernaut is going over in book form.

As the sole review so eloquently states:

'You will gain a lot of insight and make you think and respond "better" when it comes to interacting with and leading others'

'Nuff said? Hardly. 3 of 3 people had found the review helpful.

Corey, what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone!
05.26.2010 | Unregistered Commenterdbh
Who knows? But the speculation I read centered on how Larry Nelson wouldn't be able to "connect" with the modern players. Yeah, right. Tom Lehman really connected with them. As did Tom Kite and Hal Sutton. Connected so well with them that they got their asses kicked. A US Open at Oakmont and two PGA Championships would, certainly should, speak pretty loudly to most players. One would think.

And what d.b. says.
No wonder Pavin hasn't called.

If I recall correctly, Nelson got outmaneuvered by Lanny Wadkins.
05.27.2010 | Unregistered CommenterClaude
And, believe me, Lanny knows how to plant his lips on a hairy ass.
05.28.2010 | Unregistered Commenterfreddie
Who cares? I'm waiting for one of of the big boys to pull out. Because who would want to play in the piss in Wales at the end of Sept. Stupid. It's all about the money. If I am Phil M, I am out. Screw them. Cheers! E.
