"Those Aussies were shitting themselves."

Ernie Els today before the WGC Bridgestone, asked about low scores and his lowest:

Q. What's your all-time low anywhere?

ERNIE ELS: 60. I shot 60 a bunch of times but never could crack the 59.

Q. On TOUR?

ERNIE ELS: On TOUR I shot 60 once on the European Tour. At Royal Melbourne of all places. Those Aussies were shitting themselves. Nobody could shoot under 60 at Royal Melbourne and they were trying to talk on my backswing the last three holes.

Q. Was that at the Heineken?

ERNIE ELS: At the Heineken, yeah.

Q. Did you have a shot on the last or did you birdie the last?

ERNIE ELS: Yeah, I had chances -- I had 12-under through 15 holes, mate. Kind of choked, made a bogey and then I made birdie, and I had two chances coming in. Didn't quite do it. I think I felt embarrassed for them.

Is that a fineable quote? I hope not.

Transcription error, Geoff. It's an Afrikaans expression, meaning, "They were beside themselves. Noticeably perturbed."

That's a great quote and Els should be praised not fined for saying it.

It was a really easy day!!!

RM had always had famous blokes break the record - Snead (65),Irwin (64),Baker-Finch (63) and then an unknown journeyman, Richard Lee shot 62 - so they were delighted that Ernie broke that record - and delighted it was 60 and not 59.

Ernie's great. An honorary Aussie. if he played cricket they may have won the World Cup in 1999 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Longy . . . unless Tiger showed up as the opposing bowler, at which time Ernie would've fouled his whites and slunked to whatever serves as cricket's dugout.

The thought of Tiger playing cricket is fascinating. Although if you know of the exploits of a guy called Shane Warne you would see that Tiger would fit in just fine.

Ernie should get extra Fed Ex Cup points for that story.
