"Tiger Woods is going to the Ryder Cup as a captain's pick with his 71 victories and 14 majors. So is 21-year-old Rickie Fowler, who has never won anything at all."
Doug Ferguson's lede sums up the state of American Ryder Cup picks of Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

Fowler may surprise people. Maybe not. He is not grizzled yet. Pavin probably wanted a bit of fiery youth around to liven up the troops.
As I have stated b4 , he had to pick TW, as his butt is covered if Woods does good or bad,
Cink will be followed by a Euro cheat watch squad, and I don't blame them. See if he can hide in the bathroom trying to ice a Euro, like he did Watson.
Maybe Fowler was picked to help design the uniforms...... I like RF but he's to hot.cold...... which may be ok since it;s not 4 days of one score, but individual comptitions.
I predict a lot of close competition , with great scoring, and really bad scoring

what's the cink-cheating thing?

Who knew, Stu?
One of the nicest guys on the planet, it appears that Stewart Cink has a diabolical, wily streak we never knew existed. Last week, Cink finally came clean as to why it took him several extra minutes to reach the first tee for his playoff with Tom Watson at the British Open last month. He was freezing the 59-year-old, to use the NFL term. "I knew what I was up against with Tom Watson, because with the crowd pulling for him so much that I didn't want to be on the tee standing there when he walked up," Cink volunteered. "I wanted to be the last on the tee, because if anything, I wanted him to hear some applause for me walking up there instead of the other way around. So I didn't really have to go to the restroom, but I decided to go anyway, just take a few extra seconds to go down there and then walk on the tee." For those who believe there isn't much room for gamesmanship on the PGA Tour, consider yourself corrected.
(fair use.)
Come on. Gamesmanship? He hides in the pisser. Furyk is dqed for missing five minutes of a pro am?
Cink is a weasel. I hope he goes 0-5. And I'm not a Watson fan.
Any further reflections, upon further review, Steve?
play well.

Woods - Got to have the Devil on your side.
Johnson - Got to have God on your side.
Holmes - A bomber who can putt.
Hoffman - A bomber who can putt.
OK picks, by the way. Glover likely shot himself out of it with that churlish back nine at Greensboro, and Fowler could be dynamite in the fourballs.
Oh, and Monty choked in majors. Fact.
I have trouble picturing him in alternate shot format...maybe with Bubba Watson as a reckless, go for broke pairing.
Enjoy your 1 major you clown
I will defer from much comment at this time.
In light of all the bizarre penalties, and non score affecting penalties we have witnessed in the last few weeks, to blatantly lie and stall a match for the purposes of, well, putting pressure on your competition, in a game of honor, is well, just not what I would consider honorable.
But what can you expect from the guy who teed it up in a waste bunker at HH. I wouldn't want Cink on my island.
take care.

Monty and his charges shall prevail.
The snake was bound to be mntioned.
Seve rattling change, many moving on the green while one is putting. etc.
Gamesmanship is always present, as muc by comment, as by action.
but come on. Hiding in the pisser?
IMO.

Ricky is not a breath of anything except marketing hot air. There have been guys dressing better than Fowler for a number of years now, OK perhaps they have mostly been Euro Players, but he's late to the game for changing the look on the golf course. I'll give him this tho, he's the first to totally whore himself out head to toe and become a walking advert for a dying sports company company trying to break into golf. The only one worse is Daly.
Pavin's never been cool and his picks are stupid to say the least.
My only problem with Cink's icing move was talking about it. Why in the world would you talk about something that could only be perceived as a negative? Cink- good on ya for the move, bad on ya for failing to keep your trap shut.
A related thought. I love all of my fellow Shack posters for their sense of righteous indignation over Cink and all other perceived slights to the "holiness" of the rules of golf. It's nice to know that St. Peter will always be able to fill his foursome. :)
I wonder how many of the Righteous Rules Police (RRP) here have ever done anything strategic in match play or tournament play to gain a mental edge on their opponent.
Anyway, I think that the Ryder Cup will be on the Brits' side of The Pond when done, but I'll still probably watch some of it.
"In the hectic moments between the conclusion of the British Open and the start of the four-hole playoff between Stewart Cink and Tom Watson, Cink had the presence of mind to use a portable restroom. Well, sort of.
After birdieing the 18th hole -- and then having to clear up a rules issue that had occurred at the 17th green when Cink had to replace his ball that had moved before he marked it -- Cink made his way to the fifth hole and then ducked into a bathroom as Watson walked up to the tee. And it had nothing to do with nerves.
"I was late going to the tee because I knew what I was up against with Tom Watson with the crowd pulling for him so much that I didn't want to be on the tee standing there when he walked up,'' Cink said. "I wanted to be the last on the tee, because if anything, I wanted him to hear some applause for me walking up there instead of the other way around.
"So I really didn't have to go to the restroom, but I decided to go anyway, just take a few extra seconds to go down there and then walk on the tee.'' And then. "I'm getting old, so sometimes I don't know if I have to go to the bathroom or not,'' Cink, 36, said. Cink made two birdies in the four-hole playoff to easily win the playoff and capture his first major championship.
