Latest Golf Digest Podcast: West Coast, Tiger, Phil
Sam Weinman talks to me about a Golf World column this week on the dangers of the tour's proposed "fiscal year" calendar, the state of the West Coast Swing, Tiger and Phil, all set to the background noise of the Northern Trust Open media center. Give it a listen below, or subscribe to Golf Digest's podcasts on iTunes.

This fiscal year start is a crazy idea.
As I pointed out in a previous thread, under this arrangement you're going to have the better part of 6 straight months of humdrum Tour stops before the Masters rolls around. What possible Tour narrative can you sell over that length of time (please don't say 'the race for the FedEx Cup')? If they don't understand they draft on the appeal of the Majors and should schedule accordingly, I don't know what to tell them.
The present January start is perfect. Hiatus and reboot... the average viewer tunes in because the weather's nice somewhere else. You continue to engage viewers because familiar names/dark horses play well early and the Masters is just around the corner...can any of these guys win or maybe just qualify?
These latest moves (this and the proposed Q school/junior tour lunacy) scream hubris. And will bite them.
