Now That Angela Stanford Has Won The HSBC Champions...

...beating South Koreans Jenny Shin and Na Yeon Choi and China's Shanshan Feng, we can delight in her cold-topped shot from Friday that set up a birdie, courtesy of a shakey YouTube video.

Not sure she cold-topped it. Looks like she bounced into from six inches behind. Either way, quality shot. I remember about fifteen years ago Dave Stockton truly topping it off the 18th tee in a senior tour event and still making par. That's why these guys (and gals) are good.
I'm always disappointed that broadcasts avoid most bad shots by professionals. I think most viewers would like to see the full spectrum of shots played by pros, from the great to the terrible, but the broadcasters clearly want to be cheerleaders much more than they want to be journalists. I understand that the tours want only positive press, and broadcasters want the contracts (more or less), but every time I watch golf I have a little piece of hope that today we'll see the good, the bad, and the ugly throughout the round.

However, now that cell phones are allowed on courses, maybe we'll be seeing these posted by the fans.

Didn't Jack Nicklaus cold top a fairway wood shot in one of the first skins games? It should come as no surpise to anybody that touring pros still hit some of the horrific shots that we do.

Not sure this was much worse than Hunter Mahan's shank today. And he won as well. Good on them for overcoming shots that are totally unexpected at their level of play.....

Jim S,
Yes the worst example ever was Webb Simpson's shank last year at Cog Hill in the playoffs. He shanks it off a corporate chalet, makes par, shoots 66, has a laugh with the people in the chalet, and the PGA Tour didn't include it in the highlights! So not only does he overcome the most terrifying shot in golf, he handles it with class and whimsy, and it's something to be ashamed of? Nuts!

Poulter definitely has the shank in his bag.. usually makes an appearance at Augusta.

Didn't Trip Kuehne's shank one on 16 at Augusta a few years back? Also, I remember seeing Stuart Appleby pull-hook one off #8 tee at Augusta - camera shot was directly from behind, it was fantastic. These pro golfers have such power that when they miss, often times they miss really bad and it's kind of cool to see.
