No wonder Hanse won - look at the artwork in that route plan! ;)

The 16th looks like a homage to the 10th at Riviera - great position in the routing for a hole like that. Does anybody know what the soil is like on the location? The design looks like it should work best on rather firm ground.

Hawkeye, I'm sure Geoff will cover in detail, but evidently the plan is a series of 3 'half par' holes to finish: drivable par 4, short par 3, reachable par 5.
Boffo!

The plot of land marked for the course looks like the State of Connecticut.

Hawkeye,
I'm seeing this for the first time today because of the strict non-disclosure agreements, but it does appear that 16 has elements of 10 at Riviera and the Road hole!

This seems very well thought out. I'm impressed. Hope the range is 400+ yards though....you never know whats going to happen to technology in 4 years.

@Hawkeye:

The plot is all sand, very near from the beach.

You can see it here: http://maps.google.com.br/maps?q=-23.00547,+-43.40705&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=pt-BR&sa=N&tab=wl

@Hawkeye

The soil is very soft, it´s all sand because it´s very close to the beach, The hole region is formated by Barrier Islands.

Great link, Fernando. Thank you.

You´re welcome! This is my neighborhood, I live just next to this new course. I hope Gil do a great job here because the location is absolutely beautiful!

Sand base sounds like a good sign.

Thanks for the info, Fernando! Yes, sand base indicates that it can be set up to play pretty fast.

Would love to see a topo map of the routing plan. From the initial view the plan shown sort of resembles Royal Melbourne a bit with the 'connecting' fairways between some of the golf holes. Of course this is only a 2-dimeninal drawing, but just saying. Again, no on can tell what this baby looks like without having actually been on the property or seeing a topo map.

Can’t wait to see the greens and surrounds drawings as well.

Most confident that Gil Hanse will do a great job - what a boost this whole process is to the golf industry. Finally, some positive news about our industry - even if it is in Brazil!

Gil is carrying the banner for the entire industry right now. I cannot remember any new golf course getting this much attention – we are all very excited that golf is getting some positive attention again.

Appears the “game” is moving toward being healthy again. See HONDA last week and DORAL this weekend for confirmation! And least we forget The Donald’s recent purchase of the DORAL RESORT!

Cool routing and a nice mix of straight, DL lefts and rights!

Love the multiple double and triple fairways and it appears to be easy from green-to-tee! Only tight spot appears to be between nos 5 and 6....but that's nitpicking. Sandy soil is also ideal.

Interesting...did I count 3 par-3's on the front9....and 2 on the back? What is the proposed "par"...couldn't read the "tiny type" on the webpage.

Also...nice to see those 3 practice/academy holes marked A, B, and C...we need more of those.

Par appears to be 71, 3 par 3's and 2 par 5's on the front for out in 35, then back in 36, should be interesting

@PFD, I am trying my hardest to forget the Donald's purchase.......oh yea, good for the game, my bad.
