Romney Keeping Up Attacks On Obama's Affection For Golf

Steven Thomma points out at the presumptive Republican nominee does not begrudge the President taking some time for himself, just that it's done so playing the Royal and Ancient.

“As millions of Americans continue to struggle to find work, President Obama has now played a total of 1,710 holes since taking office,” Romney’s campaign said in a recent release. “A lot of Americans have had to make sacrifices these last four years. We would expect our president to do the same.”

“Gov. Romney doesn’t begrudge the president for taking some time off,” Romney aide Ryan Williams said. “But he (Obama) has spent an excessive amount of time golfing and vacationing over the last three years instead of keeping his eye on the ball on economic issues.” Romney doesn’t golf, Williams said.

Since the country would not be in the shape it's in, if effective governing preceeded any president in 2008, will Romney talk about the amount of vacation time Bush 43 took, the most of an President, at times bordering on 50% of lengthy time periods.

Look, I am an independent, and I am certainly not crazy about the job O has done; the crap on Wall street is going strong- but Romney is a bigoted crook. You can look it up.

Bottom line, we are n deep shit, any way you go.

ot;Let the networks speak up on slow play, with their wallets.

Thats 95 rounds in 3.3 years, which is slightly less about than 30 rounds a year and about 2 1/2 times a month. A whole 10 hours a month. Big whoop. I don't remember him using any sick time, so the golf is probably helping the country as a whole.

what is the deal with non-golfers using golf as a verb? you can bowl and swim, but you play golf as you play baseball or soccer.

Mr. Columbia: I refer you to the Oxford English Dictionary (or any of many others). When one of the forms following a word is v.i., it is indeed a verb. Very commonly used in literate circles. A rare plaudit (from this source) to Mr. Romney. That it is not so used in your circles is neither here nor there --such usages tend to be reasonably regional. But he is not in any way -- except of course in the genereal criticism, which is garbage -- incorrect.

Thing is, why is he obsessing on this theme? Hole-counting seems a very anal approach. And the implication of time-wasting can hardly flatter the majority of American golfers, who seem to me more demographically likely to be Republicans than Democrats. Politically tone-deaf, someone said. Not a good omen.

There's a reason why so many doctors and surgeons play this game ... its stress-relieving properties, if that doesn't sound too paradoxical.

When the irish started to bomb mainland Britain, one of the surgeons, having operated through the night, didn't go straight home to bed but to the golf course.

As far as I'm concerned, if playing golf helps Obama keep the finger off the button, he can play as much as he likes.
@ Sandfly ... it may be anal but more effective than declaring the number of rounds which doesn't sound nearly so bad spread over the given period of time.

Romney almost seems to be inferring he doesn't take time off. So, it comes down to this ... a workaholic President or a life-balanced one. I know which I'd prefer.
Has Team Romney counted the number of holes that Speaker of the House Boehner has played since taking office?

Maybe it's just me, but I would prefer that they all go play some golf... every day. At least then they won't be F____ing with my life.

As always, Kenoneputt.

Romney has my vote no matter what. I refuse to vote for Obama...AND that's enough politics talk on this site.

I think it's a big mistake for Romney's handlers to let him pursue this strategy. Mitt should concentrate on criticizing the quality of Obama's presidential performance rather than how much time he spends on presidential performance.
I am reminded of a former mentor's comment about ill directed focus of another colleague.

The fact that anyone cares about this, shows the horrible shape of our country. Romney can do no wrong, he doesn't take time off and he saved Detroit!! How stupid are people today?

In the business world, how may deals are made over a round of golf? How much networking is done? How many problems are solved? A hell of a lot. The President is still the president while playing golf and I am sure he is still in constant contact with his office should any urgent problems arise (or Wall Street calls begging for more handouts).
05.25.2012 | Unregistered CommenterTheRJoelB
What amazes me is that a co-worker of Romney has been given the task to count the rounds of golf Obama played. I would say that is also a waste of time and public money.

"How stupid are people today?"
Kardashian(s), Snooki, Jon & Kate, Real Housewives of Lower Slobbovia, America's Got Talent (not), Big Break Goat Hills, Newt Gingrich, Cynthia McKinney...Best not go there. So, who's ahead after the first round of the KitchenAid Classic? Hmm, Roger Chapman. Uh, maybe some of our British comrades can bring us up to date on him?

I call golf my 4 hour stress management seminar.

So Obama plays golf every ~16 days. What's the big deal?

And I am waiting for the report on Fox news blaming slow play on Obama.

P---k.

If Romney was a true born and raised Michigander, he would have played twice as many holes and played it in half the time since you cannot play year round in Michigan.
05.25.2012 | Unregistered CommenterPat
Digsouth ... I don't know of any other activity that can get your head away from everyday matters to the same extent that golf can.

Incidentally, it may interest you to know that that surgeon was a Captain of the R&A.
ER
"So Obama plays golf every ~16 days. What's the big deal?"

It is a big deal because so many people cannot afford to play because of him, don't have time to play because they are doing everything they can to survive because of him, or a protecting our country and don't have the opportunity to play. He jet sets around to all 57 states and plays preacher while living off the few that pull the cart. Let them eat cake - let them play golf.

Plus, have you seen his sissy move and his six hour rounds ... what a joke in every way.

Go Mitt Go

How about a Fresca

Good effing God. If you lot elect that hole-counter, you deserve whatever comes of it.

In what way is any president, whichever party, responsible for what he inherited in 2008? HE did? Get a grip. He is not the leader of the world, as he and those who voted for him had hoped, but try to remember what the alternative was...and now it's Mitt Romney you want on os place? Sometimes it's better the devil you know.

On your heads be it. Obama is no Clinton (either). brainy bit inexperienced. But a celebrity-driven nation got glamourised. He is no fool, but he hasn't the bottom. as we say in the UK. The Repubs have nothing to put forward, so perhaps experience will trump trumpeting, which is all we have heard from Romney.

I wouldn't give a damn escept your stuff infects us all.
05.25.2012 | Unregistered CommenterVGood effing God.
lib posters here complain about someone on Romney's staff counting golf outings as a bad thing. How about BO's staff looking into Romney's HS activities FIFTY YEARS AGO or looking into divorce proceedings for dirt on Romeny's big campaign donors.

Hey libs...Pot SEE KETTLE.
05.26.2012 | Unregistered Commentermorphy
Really? Grow up.

Man, calling me a liberal is funny, and the liberal policies of the GOP are what got us in the jam we are in. Anger management poster child would have effed us up even more had he been selected, as was 43. When are you GOPs gonna look at what the elected of that party are DOING, not what they are saying.

As an indy, I find it amazing that some people still argue for a party, when they are both the same...letting banks and oil companies merge and eff the country, while small minds argue over who can marry who, and such BS.

I mean, really.... you could have said NA NA NA NA, and it would have been better.
05.26.2012 | Unregistered Commenterdigsouth
Geoff : knock off your constant shilling for Obama already. It's going to be a long summer and we read you to escape politics not engage in them.

You can be a flaming lib on your own time ( or a different blog).
