It's Looking More And More Like Phil Will Be Writing A Big Padres-Related Check Very Soon

CBSSports.com's Scott Miller reports that the current Padres ownership group is now just negotiating the ball club's imminent sale with the O'Malley group, which Phil Mickelson has joined.

Mickelson has said he would be investing "a lot" of his own money, but would stick to improving the team's community ties.

In the wake of the Dodgers sale/valuation smart money is selling. The current owner had a deal for $500mm that ultimately was not approved and now with the Dodgers deal as a comp Phil's group is signing up to pay $800,000,000! That's a 70% premium to the valuation Forbes placed on the team earlier this year.

My advice to Phil would be to buy a fancy box and keep his cash...

...stay conservative people!

Forbes is the Bleacher Report of the financial industry. Stay conservative? Find me a professional sports team in North America that has sold for less than its previous number in the last 25 years. At this point, it is purely an ego thing for Phil - good for him.

Las Vegas. Inland Empire. Pretty much anything south of RIviera and east of Newport CC.

"Ego", the greatest fortune killer there ever was. Ever.

Hey, if this goes sour, all Phil needs to do is sign up for a bunch of Euro/Australian Tour events in the offseason.
