2012 Glory's First Shot-To-Promote-The-CBS-Fall-Lineup, Third Round Open Comment Thread

It's back, annually the worst golf telecast of the year, CBS and the PGA of America joining forces to show you as little golf as possible and as many plugs, promos, paybacks and other nonsense.

Big questions for Saturday: will Jim Nantz be able to muster the necessary enthusiam for the first How I Met Your Mother promo?

Will the 3 p.m. start time for the leaders, when mixed with the weather forecast, cause problems?

TNT starts at 11 ET, CBS starts showing something resembling a golf telecast at 2 ET, but if you have a DVR, you can start watching at 3:30 ET by and be caught up with the actual golf by 4 ET.

Im sure if theres delays CBS will have enough time to reinterview the PGA president, his vice president, and the treasurer. Maybe they can follow it up with some heartfelt story of some PGA pro who shot +900 yesterday.

If all else fails, just replay the putt of Tiger in the 2000 PGA playoff where he follows the ball in.

You want boring and humorless and downright awful? Go to Golf Channel's "Live Chat." So John, what score do you think Ian Poulter will shoot today on the front 9? Thanx! Larry in Spartanburg.

Mesmerizing. Tragic.

Yesterday I watched a bunch of commercials, with a bit of golf in between.

Does anyone else get the feeling that more writers are pulling for a rain delay than a good tournament so they can say "I told you so" and blame somebody.
Hey CBS and TNT I Fast forwarded through every commercial yesterday.

And how the heck does Ernie Johnson have a job, his voice sounds like a moose in a sewer pipe. And Peter Kostis please I don t need to hear your knowledge of the golf swing in the middle of someone's backswing. Sometimes I just want to hear the wind. And the smack of the ball.

And looking forward to Nantz's sappy syrupy sweetness of a monologue if Tiger is walking down 18 with the lead on Sunday. I am sure he is practicing it in the mirror today. I will shed a tear for sure and it will taste just like cotton candy.

No Longer, dear, yes.

Sitting in an air conditioned press room all day in a comfortable chair with the buffet and big screen gives a golf writer tremendous insight in anything and everything, with a touch of cynicism.

When these nerds go for some self-deprecating snark ... that's when I'll listen.

@No Longer +Sclaff,

Excellent!

Those clowns write some juvenile piece and then will stand around and call each other brilliant.

And they actually think they shape the game.

See Robert Duvall as the baseball writer in The Natural.

One word for CBS's coverage of the PGA: unwatchable

Thanks for the Guardian blog post - the guy can be somewhat funny.

Funny graphic in the PGA.com 'birdie/bogey streak' sidebar. Bjorn shows in both categories.

Thanks for the tip, Tim.

NP JM4; Bjorn had five birdies and five bogies for the first ten holes; no pars. Basically, the PGA streak tracker is a bit of a waste of time, really. Although some guy had nine bogeys in a row Friday. One of those pros who shoot 90+ I think. Surely Petterson is just a European version of John Daly - gut-wise.

Something is weird on the CBS coverage....its off. Anyone know if there is a problem behind the scenes?

Hey guys, why don't you mosey on over here to the Olympics and witness true professionals at work. Oh aye, and bring that twat, Romney, with you where he will find a large helping of crow waiting for him!

Oops, too late. Shame.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commentersmug besom
smug besom! I did watch the Olympics, and those women waddling through the streets of Nottingham or wherever was the freakiest thing I've ever seen. And that Ferris Wheel by the doo-doo brown Thames is a precious addition to your historic sissyscape, too! Oh, aye!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterSclaff & Foozle
So Justin Rose boots away four shots in the last six holes; if you're not under par by the end of today, you'll have no chance - what's the over /under for a -8 leading score tonight? Tiger or Rory?
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterTim in Hoylake
Not sure where you get the 4th shot for Rose, TiH.
I'll take the under: -6.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterdbh
Hi dbh - 11th putt short; crappy chip on 14th, putt on 16th, putt on 18. So for Rory in the tree, is the ruing two clubs lengths including change in elevation, or do you assume a spot on the ground, and go from there.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterTim in Hoylake
British Open weather approaching on cue............by 4:30 it's gonna be an issue! Those in the clubhouse at -2 may be sitting pretty!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterfred jones
Indeed Fred, and Tiger is already turtling into Hoylake mode; another T3 on the cards?
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterTim in Hoylake
Omega did not put alot of money into that crappy commercial, but obviously spent the bank to have it shown twice or so every commercial break.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterQrispy2
I can't beleive Tiger missed that 2 foot birdie putt!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterfred jones
Nice blown call by McCord on Rory's tee shot. He quickly blamed it on the wind, lol.

Possible weekend troubles for Woods again?

Go Rory.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterd.b.cooper
Of the top ten players on the leaderboard, only woods isn't under par for the day...........losing ground to the field!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterfred jones
Seen every shot by Tiger, but Vijay's already being squeezed out of the coverage. They skipped his tee shot on the third, and his final putt. Skipped his drive on the 4th. Two other shots were shown on replay after Tiger's were shown live.
I have watched for 30 minutes and there have been 2 "recaps". First Rory and then Tiger. They have played 9 holes combined.

F!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterSpiegs
When will the camera operator with the handheld unit following Tiger and Vijay clean the lens?!
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterJWB
"sick as a parrot"? what does that mean Mr McCord??
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterfred jones
I thought it was "sick as a pirate", but not sure.

Looks like Woods has third round troubles once again and is getting passed by quite a few others.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterd.b.cooper
Not saying this is going to happen today, but I have been on a barrier island near Charleston, several times when nasty storms on the mainland never crossed the Intracoastal Waterway. All depends on the wind.

I have at least as much credibility as the sportswriters tweeting ominous warnings and radar images.
Scott is playing admirably in his first major after Lytham.

Keep going, Rory.

Tiger is starting to root for a rain delay...................
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterfred jones
Sincerely hope this weather doesn't amount to anything electrically. 30K spectators on exposed ground, yeesh!.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered Commenterdbh
Pussy Cat bogeyed the par-5 seventh hole, his third bogey in four holes. Pussy Cat's gagging again on Moving Day. Just goes to prove TCWWCT.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterTCWWCT
Tiger's mental issues when in contention at majors are worse than I feared. He's wound tighter than an old 384 Tour 100, and is simply playing scared today. Just like it's now clear that he was at Olympic and Lytham too. Go, Rory, go.
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterHawkeye
This tournament is much more exciting to watch than the dismal U.S. Open yet the only thing the golf media does is complaining
08.11.2012 | Unregistered CommenterMichael B.
eyem at the bar.....apologiye 4 the crappy grammar...anways, the scoring conditions appear favorable yet TW is way over par in relation to the field....foley can do so much, time for a re evaluation. VJ appears to be rekindling the old fire....go VEEJ
