Notah Replaces Dottie
Not a big surprise that Notah Begay has been officially hired by Golf Channel, but I am surprised to see he's been thrown in to the difficult on-course reporter job for network broadcasts with minimal experience.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to join the Golf Channel and NBC golf broadcast teams," Begay said. "The game of golf is as exciting as ever and I look forward to utilizing my extensive experience to provide viewers with insight into the competition and its players."

--> 1st team all-american at Stanford and played on a NCAA Championship winning team.
--> shot 59 on the Nike Tour.
--> four-time PGA Tour winner.
--> played extensively on the European Tour.
--> still quite young and in touch with the active and successful players on Tour now.
--> Stanford graduate, intelligent, thoughtful, reasonably well spoken.
I'm sure none of these things factored into the mix when the GC were deciding who to replace Dottie with...
Wonder who else was considered? Billy Andrade?
Tell you who they should have hired is Cuz' Lancaster!! I'd sign up and pay for the Golf Channel for that alone!!
down boy, easy big fella....btw are you the same Peter North who stars in (ahem) films?
Notah sounded---professional, and not slow and over deliberate. His rhythem will never be Dottie-like, but neither is Judy R's and IMO she's the best of the best.
I think ( only my opinion based on , uhh, nothing in particular) Begay got sgned on as he had already been vetted, and was liked by prouction and players, as well as the suits. Worst case scenario- he doesn't work out, and is replaced.
The TW deal may have gotten Notah in he door, but he has earned his place there on his own merit, and he was VERY honest, if not slightly slow and deliberate, on MD, in stating the need to criticize his friends as nccessary.
Sorry for sticking keys and poor typing resulting -- my fault yes, but I cannot seem to get coopration from this doggon thing.

PS...I watched some and agree with your assessment. Thought he did great for first time and will only improve from here.
