Dramatic Anchoring Tales: Laird Edition

Martin Laird uses a long putter that grazes his tummy, so he just has to cut off the end and he'll be fine if the proposed anchoring ban goes through.

Still, it's getting to be kind of comical at this point how the perception of PGA Tour golfers is that the governing bodies are taking something away from people that those golfers have used their entire lives. As we know from the cases of nearly all the prominent anchorers, it's been a fairly recent adoption rate and certainly not a method they've been using since they were wee lads.

Laird, as quoted by Bernie McGuire, took the exaggeration of the anchoring plight to another level with this quote:

"When you have golfers doing something they've been doing for 35-40 years, virtually playing a whole career using a putting method, and suddenly [the governing bodies] come along and tell those players they can't do it any more, I have a real problem with that."

Anchoring for 35-40 years? Anyone know who he's talking about?
