Tiger Still A Ratings And Streaming Draw

The numbers are in from day one and despite a lengthy GolfChannel.com prior to and early on in Tiger's Hero Challenge return, streaming numbers were sensational.

Some numbers from Golf Channel PR:

This number is amazing given that many people at work trying to stream through GolfChannel.com could not.

Interesting number here is now many stream the Dell Match Play. Another compliment to match play as much as it is to the event or course:

Would be great if GC would allow paid Canadian subscribers to also stream online!

Yep, I watched a bit last night, mainly for Fleetwood, but hey no chance of that, right?
Woods looked good. Not many driver slams into the tee boxes, and scratching my head at the
Supposed weak short-game. Weak? He looked like he’s done nothing more than chip and putt.

Just a matter of staying healthy and embracing technology available from TM’s Skunk Works.
Question for the stats nerds- how much shorter off the tee is 2001 era Tuger to 2017 version?

Every time I switched back to Golf Channel from The Munsters, a commercial was running. Should have aired with limited commercial interruption so viewers could have caught more of Hoffman's "while were away" 12 birdie 63. But I guess there's not enough gold in them thar Hero Hills.

This indicates that there are more Tiger fans out there than the Crankypants Majority of our commenters suggests.

It was interesting to see how many pro's were tweeting about this...Tiger is the only player most of these guys would ever consider watching. The general public (golfers and non golfers) is no different. I am recovering from hip surgery, so I had nothing else to do but watch the coverage over the first two days, and I was pleasantly surprised how much they showed other players. It was skewed to Tiger, obviously, but he did play way above my expectations, and I suspect almost everyone else's as well.

Why would anyone tune in to an off season event on a boring course to watch Charley Hoffman or Tommy Fleetwood do anything?
For that matter, Tremendous Slouch, why would anyone play golf?

Any thoughts on Matsuyama being cleared of improving his lie after his chip on #18 in round two? Looked like a blatant breach to me.

I could never get the Golf Channel Live Extra stream to come on. Somehow I was about to give up but was able to stream GC through the DirecTV site.
Sclaff,

Because it is fun and enjoyable and a good use of one's recreation time, particularly if you can do it on a Friday afternoon when others are working.

Are you implying that watching Charley Hoffman and Tommy Fleetwood play a silly season event on a nondescript course is equally fun and enjoyable, and as such, people who are upset that the media is focusing too much on Tiger Woods and not enough on Charley's hit and giggle 63 are doing anything other than being contrary for contrary's sake?

Because if you are, we can't be friends.
OK, time to go get a Christmas* tree and hit some balls. The all Tiger all the time coverage has begun. Someone tell Steve Sanders that I'm not amongst the rest of the world who are all waiting with anticipation to watch a patented Saturday charge® up the leaderboard at the real 5th major. I don't care to watch players walk, stand on a tee box or drink a bottle of water, or listen to Notah's inane nattering.

(*Thanks, Fox News and "President" Trump!)

When Tiger uses a fake twinge in his back to take a knee on the tee, he'll be disrespecting the troops, nay, disrespecting America! Oh, it's coming. A leopard always shows its stripes. Why in the world those people are watching him, when out Great White Savior and his helpers are working so hard to cut our taxes and getting NO respect . . . well it's a shameful thing. Shameful!
I'm not sure why people are so proud of ratings. If Trump teed it up in this event, the ratings would eclipse Tigers'. Same goes for a large chested Kardashian, Taylor Swift, or Caitlyn Jenner.

BTW - not Tiger related but: Anyone who has ever ridden or raced real motorcycles knows that the idea of taking a Hero glorified scooter out on a race track is an absolute joke. Seeing that clown try and wheelie at the end of the commercial is hilarious.

LOL, slurper Notah on TW's tee shot on 11, "Ah this is a little to the right". TW hit it into the weeds right of Roy Moore. Once a bootlicker....

People always stop to watch a car accident. Can't help themselves

Yipsy's a Walking Accident.

A hearty "nice job you miserable bastard" to the guy who branched out beyond the golf and included badmouthing the sponsor/commercials to his usual diatribe.
12.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterSchlasser
After today's third round, the "Hello World, part deux" has been put on hold. In fairness to Tiger, there was a lot of lousy golf out there today. It was cold and rainy here today, but I found myself sneaking a peek at Harvard-Kentucky...
12.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterPops
Can't take, huh, Schlasser? If you thought viewers hated Rory's watch commercial, you better not buy any HERO stock after the waterboarding session today. Why would a world supplier of any product find it unnecessary to update their commercial from a year ago? What happened, the company blow all their profits on employee spiritual training and golf junkets with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev?
@Press Agent
Yeah, Hero Motocorp sells a ton of scooters and tiddlers ... ok, tiddlers of the millennium. They did have a partnership with The Evil Empire, aka Honda Motor Corp, to make Asian market bikes =/<. 250 cc. Some of their parts were used by Honda as a cost cutting measure.

As for the wheelie... CG is a marvelous thing. But on a 150cc machine? Not buying that. Although even I got a 250cc to wheelie... granted it was a TZ250 and I was in the noodle wide power and headed over the crest of a hill.
12.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterLateral Hazard
Tiddler? Is that OK to say in a family blog?

Anyway, I played golf this afternoon and then watched Georgia slap Auburn silly on CBS. Gonna check in with Wisconsin v. tOSU and Clemson v. Miami over the next hour or two. On Wisconsin! How did Tiger do today? Red Grange, Deacon Jones, or Alex Karras?
12.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterKLG
Never mind. ESPN.com says Deacon Jones.
12.2.2017 | Unregistered CommenterKLG
Yeah, GC wetting their pants re: Tiger return. Over kill. Stay tuned, drama to follow. Show some respect for today's stars.
12.2.2017 | Unregistered Commentertourimage
The noteriety and salaciousness of Tiger are the biggest driver of ratings here. Slurpers and others who occassionally attend the Church of Eldrick don't consitute enough numbers anymore.

Imagine the ratings if Trump & Kim Jong Un teed it up next week together to discuss Asian geopolitics and the global media was invited to cover the event.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered CommenterAbu Dhabi Golfer
I was honestly shocked at the extent of the Tiger cheerleading, and not just on GC. It is as if everything over the last 8 years has been erased from the public consciousness. Even the notoriously crusty Ron Sirak on Twitter was slobbering all over him. It is quite bizarre. I fortunately missed the first two days but did remember to tune in yesterday, just in time to see TW hitting it everywhere except into the fairway. That was enjoyable even if the apologetic commentary was not.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered CommenterGreg B.
The numbers in the ratings still do the same thing.
Tiger playing and playing well....up

Tiger finishes, does interviews, ratings dwindle away.

Whatever the reason. If you like him or loathe him, it is pretty amazing

Greg,
Catching the golf today? Hope not for your sake. Haha.

@Don - Giving a pass to a silly-season 18 man event on a pretty Mickey-mouse course in favour of NFL this Sunday. When you're chipping or putting for eagle on half the holes it's a pretty weak test for these guys.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered CommenterGreg B.
Best thing is Tiger feels very relaxed and open in a new way with the media. Let's hope he continues to be healthy and can play...for golf and for himself.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered Commenternancy
Also, I'm totally thinking that Rickie is moving up ... making it happen... steady.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered Commenternancy
And...what's going on with DJ...today...at the bottom! Would love to read comments on this.
12.3.2017 | Unregistered Commenternancy
What is there to say about DJ? Not on his game at the moment and no big deal on Dec.3rd.
Someone is worried about someone being last in an 18 man no cut event? Sorry Nancy, but you've been drinking the Kool-Aid by the gallon if you think this is anything more than "there are worse places to be to get paid for doing this right now."
12.4.2017 | Unregistered CommenterPat(another one)
lol ... but if it was TW dead-last during a "hit and giggle" on an "easy track" .... everybody would say it's a sure sign of sucking. Funny how perspective changes things.

WHat ever happened to Rory Mcilroy anyways?
12.4.2017 | Unregistered CommenterSwing Away
Swing Away.... it's 18 guys. DJ finished low on the board. And it matters not a whit.
