2017 Walker Cup Session One, This And That

The players have refined the art of the practice round, the course looks superb and Los Angeles Country Club is ready for its unveiling.

The U.S. needs to get off to a strong start in foursomes, not always their strong suit, writes Brentley Romine for Golfweek.

Ali Stafford has a fun look back at what became of the 2001 Walker Cup teams.

Photos from a beautiful Friday practice session and evening in Los Angeles.

Mike Trostel of the USGA interviewed Gil Hanse and myself about the golf course design and restoration.

You can follow scoring here.

WalkerCup.org will feature additional coverage in addition to Fox Sports 1's six hours each day.

FS1 is on from 9-12 pm PT Saturday morning and 2-5 pm PT for their afternoon coverage.

Enjoy the matches!

Wearing white after Labor Day could be a bad omen.

Morning matches appear halved. 2 - 2.

Did Thomas play golf?

Hey Geoff. Was watching today and your name was mentioned quite a bit re your work here. Just curious on your thoughts on how long several of the par 3s were set up and if that was how you and Gil envisioned it playing? Thx.

Telecast not near as good as the Am at Riviera. Missed showing a lot of what must have been "interesting" shots. To many unnecessary graphics. No first hole, introductions coverage.

Is a course flawed when a guy (Thornberry) can play down the 2nd fairway on the par 4.5 17th hole?

Just asking an innocent question.

By the way, the course looks great - like the sawtooth bunkers, very natural.

I'm not sure about a par 3 playing at 78 yards. Oh well.

No coverage of this on Golf Channel. Huh? Arnold was an amateur once.

Course looks awesome. Geoff cannot be happy with wedge out rough, toughest rough I have seen this year.

I caught the last 4 pairings on Fox this afternoon Very entertaining. The course looks great: green where it needs to be, and brownish where it doesn't.

Lots of views of the "found" 17th green this afternoon. It's neat that it was restored, but since there isn't any angle into it, why was it done? The club would need to take down a beautiful sycamore to make it playable.

@ Hardy - Fox has all the USGA events. GC would love to cover this.

I wonder if the tees being very close to the previous green will cause a pace of play issue for the open.

Brian S,

Golf Channel isn't even reporting the reults.

Hardy,
Golf Channel has shut down its Orlando operation this weekend. There is a hurricane. Have you heard|?

We had extensive coverage plans this week but the safety of employees took priority.

Once again Azinger and Faxon are not the dynamic duo. Fox can't do golf. They can't do the pros and they can't do the amateurs. Azinger sounds like he's bored. Fa on try's to explain the obvious. Venturi stated that you don't need to talk just to be talking. The only person missing from this disaster is Gary McCord. His silly and senseless commentary would make it a bigger disaster than Hurricane Harvey and Irma.

I'm glad Fox is giving so much attention to the amateur game, but pretty dismayed that they won't be televising the Mid Am any longer.

Apparently the safety of employees and shut down in Orlando has not stopped the posts on the Golf Channel website: Arnie, LPGA, Symetra Tour, Euro Tour...but absolutely zero mention of the Walker Cup. Does a hurricane prevent online posting?
