La Cumbre Country Club Bunker Project
Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:52 AM Over the course of two years the bunkers were rebuilt by superintendent Wayne Mills, assistant superintendent Felix Zaragosa and the club crew, with design supervision by Geoff. The intention was to take bunkers that looked tired and excessive in scale and convert them into older looking hazards you'd expect to find on a 1925 George Thomas and Billy Bell design (which La Cumbre is).
The process included lower faces and digging up bunkers so that they cut up into greensites instead of resting above them. New sand and drainage were also part of the project, as were efforts to enable easier access into the bunkers.
