Breeders Cup Mile: (Likely) Shackleford's Last Race!

I know some of you have been counting the days until Saturday's Breeders Cup Dirt Mile when Shackleford, the 2011 Preakness Stakes winner, is expected to make his final career start. And some of you have been counting the days just knowing it means no more posts about this great American thoroughbred!

He'll likely be the 1:15 Pacific post-time favorite but faces a tough field of eight other hopefuls.

If nothing else, check out Shack for his majestic presence, which has been the talk of Santa Anita's infamous Clocker's Corner where the cynics rarely rave about a horse. But as you'll see from my photos below and in this HRTV video of trainer Dale Romans bringing him out for his legion of fans in a meet-and-greet, he's a looker. He's also a biter until you produce a peppermint, as I gladly found out.

NBC Sports Channel has all of the Breeders Cup coverage until the network takes over at 5 pm. Pacific to show the Breeders Cup Classic.
