Christy O'Connor In The HOF
/From the Hall of Fame press release:
When you come to think of it that is the secret of most of the great holes all over the world. They all have some kind of a twist. C.B. MACDONALD
From the Hall of Fame press release:
Golfweek.com offers a nice overview of today's ceremony, which is telecast at 9 EST on Golf Channel.
Obviously of most interest to this website is Pete Dye's induction, followed closely by Herbert Warren Wind's overdue entry into the HOF.
Michael Hurdan writes about Dye here in a piece for PGATour.com, while Jaime Diaz offers this perspective in the December Golf Digest.
Jerry Tarde calls Wind the American Darwin in this December Golf Digest editor's letter. I just can't believe how clean his office was. (Photo from GolfDigest.com.)
This is long overdue...
Charles Blair Macdonald to Enter World Golf Hall of Fame
Oakmont, Penn. (June 13, 2007) – Charles Blair Macdonald, instrumental in the founding of the United States Golf Association and credited with building the first 18-hole golf course in the United States, will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on Nov. 12 as part of the 2007 Class of Inductees.
“Charles Blair Macdonald is recognized today as the Father of Organized Golf in the United States,” said David Fay, Executive Director of the United States Golf Association and Member of the World Golf Foundation Board of Directors. “Without Macdonald, the USGA would not have been created. And without his leadership and strong character, the game in this country could easily have gone astray. As a player, administrator, architect, rule maker, and chronicler of the game’s history, he was one of golf’s true giants.”
Hey, if Vijay can get in, the voters figured these two charmers were overdue. Ryan Herrington reports...
"Far be it from me to correct the World Golf Hall of Fame, but there are actually four Latinos in the World Golf Hall of Fame, Chi-Chi Rodriguez, Lee Trevino, Nancy Lopez and Felipe the night janitor (laugher)."
Well, if you want to see if there was actually laughter, The Golf Channel is airing the Hall of Fame ceremony at 8 EST.
Here's the rest of the transcript from Lopez's emcee gig.
Really, I'm just so sorry I wasn't there for Vijay's Hall of Fame Induction.
Oh, and nice to see that someone in the family owns a tie.
SI's Jim Gorant visits the World Golf Hall of Fame and describes various exhibits along with Arnold Palmer's recent contributions.
Golf Channel airs the World Golf Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at (9:30 pm est and at other times in the night). I understand from a very good source that there is a video with testimonials to Alister MacKenzie from modern player-architects that is not to be missed. :)
It will be fun to see if there is a Bernard Darwin video and if so, who they got to talk about his legacy. Here's the World Golf Village home page with more on this year's nominees.

*This article says John Hopkins will be inducting and accepting on behalf of Darwin, Jacklin is handling Willie Park Sr.
