"Listen to the commentators? No, never."

From Larry Stewart in today's L.A. Times Morning Briefing:

Fox Sports Radio's Steve Czaban last week asked Woods: "Do you TiVo tournaments you're in, then go back and look at them afterward, maybe take notes, notice something, listen to what the announcers are saying?"

Said Woods: "I usually have my secretary get a copy of the telecasts from the PGA Tour and I'll take a look at it just from the swing standpoint, yeah."

Czaban: "Just the swing, though. You really won't sit down and . . . "

Woods: "Listen to the commentators? No, never."

Anyone who actually listened to it live knows that Woods was joking when he said it. He obviously pays attention to what commentators say, or he wouldn't get his knickers in a twist every time someone critiques his swing on air.

Man, we sure are getting a lot of mileage out of that interview!

why would he listen to the commentators? if the point is to review his performance in particular tournaments, there's no reason for tiger to have the audio on at all. it's hard to believe that a busy guy like that would bother listening to golf commentary just to make sure his sh** list is up to date.

i am a recreational golfer and i can't stand most golf commentary. i can't imagine how inane it must seem to someone who really knows the pro game. if tiger is interested in who has dissed him lately, i'm sure he has legions of folks willing to give him a heads up.

Tiger is surrounded by nothing but pole smokers. When was the last time an announcer cracked wise at Tiger's expense?

Mark B,
You bring up an interesting point. Why was an interview with some Fox Sports Radio dude in Washington D.C. more revealing than just about anything else he's done in the past year?

Don't forget how he used to have Stevie stand in front of the swing vision camera so they couldn't analyze his swing. I'm with JR on this one. Kostis and Faldo have both been put in the penalty box.

You never know with Steve Williams. He might have wanted to foil SwingVision all on his own, just because they hadn't given him a share and a sponsorship. That, and his own general malice...

Tiger gets enough sucking up from his entourage.

Tiger LOVES golf. He's probably watched as much golf on TV as anybody, ever. Do we think he's so business-like as to only care how his swing looks on each shot? Or, more business-like, he's got to stay on top of his 'brand', and how better to do that than by seeing (and hearing) what the world sees?
