He waits until Bay Hill. Arnold is understanding, and he'll stop the media frenzy from turning into a complete circus. All in all, during the main season he'll play Bay Hill, The Masters, The Players, Memorial, US Open, AT&T, The Open, Firestone, PGA and all four FedEx events. To show loyalty towards the tour, he'll add JT's Vegas event and the one at Disney resort to make it 15. He'll win at S:t Andrews and Firestone, and then wrap up Player of the Year with two FedEx wins. Back on track.

On a more serious note, now that he's shown that he is not prone to call penalities on himself in other walks of life, what would REALLY hurt the game beyond repair would be if he turned out to be Barry Bonds to Jack Nicklaus' Hank Aaron. So I hope he gets to pee in a cup every once in a while and that it's as clean as his former image.

How many starts does Tiger make? the tour minimum

Where does he start his 2010 golf?
Bay Hill. No way in hell he shows up at Torrey Pines.

How many starts does Tiger make?
Way less than the PGA Tour minimum. He's granted special dispensation because he basically owns the Tour. Kiss the Ryder Cup and Fedex Cup playoffs goodbye.

How many starts outside the U.S. does Tiger make?
1 - The British Open and he gets ripped to shreds by the tabloids. Get used to it Tiger.

How many wins?
1 - The AT&T in DC is his best bet.

The majors?
ZERO

let's get some cred
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterGolfFan
GolfFan, posters on this blog don't have any cred. That's why we're here.

You wanna see focus? The only place he'll get any relief from the shitstorm he has created will be on the golf course. 8 wins, at least two majors. No Vegas added to the schedule, but a trip to Disney for the kids is probably on the agenda.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterSmolmania
The biggest problem? His gallery will still be 5 deep, BUT some of them will be Tiger haters-- they will only be there to distract, hassle, heckle, yell and generally do what they can to throw off the person that they used to love but now can't wait to cause damage to.

Golf spectators, such as they can be (see-Ryder Cups) will be much MUCH less kind to Tiger.

The unknown will be how that impacts him going forward, and can he achieve next year with all that circus plus all the media questions. No matter how they (his people) try and stop it, the media will not stop asking. That is, unless Tiger's camp figures out a way to diffuse some of this before his first event of the year.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterDrewster
He plays his usual schedule. He wins 5 times, including one major (British).
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterJohn Redcorn
There will be a lot of hecklers. Toppling the mighty is powerful human impulse. People who normally wouldn't follow Tiger at a tournament because of the crowds, will now follow him to check out the heckling, maybe even participate. I'd bet it will impact his game. No majors, and I'd bet against ever reaching 18.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott
He should skip the 2010 season.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterVwgolfer
What do you think a bottom half nude pic of Tiger is worth to the tabloids or Larry Flynt?
Geoff, please start a topic on "what will make you people happy" so we can get it right out on the table exactly what all the haters want to see...

Should Tiger go to jail?

Be banned forever?

Forced to play with persimmon woods?

Cut the hamstring on the back of his leg, right at the bottom?

...seriously, name the penalty that will make the critics happy.

15 starts, 1 major, 6 other official wins for a total of 7. Jack's major's total is tied by the end of 2011, eclipsed at the Master's in 2012 -- exactly 15 years after his first major win!!
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterObserver
Observer,
A lot of people feel deeply deceived by Tiger. A suitable punishment: never reaching the pinnacle of his game again, becoming for a while, a mere top twenty player, till he retires early with his billions.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott
If Elin wants to save the marriage (as has been reported) and in search of this asks for privacy (with Jack Nicklaus at her side?), the public roar at Tiger, the negative public roar - which he richly deserves - might not take place and then he could have a somewhat normal season. No predictions from me. And if sexual addiction is an addiction and is treatable, were I Elin I would make him check in for rehab. After this maybe then we could predict what he does this year - probably not much.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered Commenterjb
I agree with the "who cares?" sentiment.

Also agree with Scott. ZERO majors this year and likely (and hopefully) will not get to Jack's record.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered Commenterdbcooper
My guess is that he plays barely more than the Majors, and probably wins at least two of them. I suspect that this entire thing will drive Tiger even further away from the public eye. And you know what that means: more time spent working on his game. Expect him to absolutely crush in the coming years.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterDukerson
By the way, apologies to all of the haters, but with his family in tatters and his endorsement deals shredded, he will have nowhere to turn except to golf.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterDukerson
starts-wherever he wants. my guess is Torrey, since thats what he always does

tournaments-one less than last year, as Buick Open was a mercy---

wins-6

majors -2

in short, tiger does what he wants/always does. He hold a big press conf at the first one to get it ut of the way, then goes back to normal, or maybe even less press contact than before, since it will be so pleasant.

outings-fewer, but this comes back in 2011
12.10.2009 | Unregistered Commenterhitter
I reckon he will take some time off, but he will start lining more "major" high class girls by June.

As for golf, it will be interesting if he keeps Stevie on the bag. He might want a clean start.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterDavo from Sydney
These are good questions.

I'm torn between him playnig every week since his home life is unbearable and never playing because Elin won't let him out of the house.

Seriously, I would think he would play first in San Diego, play about the same number of events in the U.S. and the same outside the U.S., with the caveat that other than the British, I doubt he plays in Europe next year. The press over there is kind of vicious. If its real bad, maybe he bails on Ryder Cup, citiing fatigue or "injury".

I would think he wins about 5 events again this year. +/- 2

Now, the majors. I'll say 2. It could be 1 but it could be 3. He's always a contender at Augusta and the Opens are at Pebble and St. Andrews. If you don't think Tiger's the prohibitive favorite going into those two venues, I suggest you google results the last time he played majors there.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe O
I predict we'll never see him again, at least for a few years. He'll retire from the game (what's left to prove, anyway?) and become such a recluse he'll make Greta Garbo look like one of the Kardashian sisters. Eventually, he'll come out of retirement, win five more majors just to prove a point and go back into hiding. You read it here first.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterYoung Man Birdie
Scott, you said:

Observer,
A lot of people feel deeply deceived by Tiger. A suitable punishment: never reaching the pinnacle of his game again, becoming for a while, a mere top twenty player, till he retires early with his billions.

Sniff, sniff, you poor baby! Did Tiger promise you fidelity too? Did he promise to love, honor and obey? Did you watch him so you could tell your offspring to be just like Tiger and now he's let you down? Did you believe the Gandhi garbage out of Earl's mouth?

That must be the case, because you feel entitled to mete out punishment. You want him to turn into Jim Furyk? Dream on. He will chew up and spit out the other 19 sackless wonders, with or without controversy.

I have no doubt that you live a life beyond reproach, since you're a great stone thrower. He f'ed up. He acted like a pig. He is a lowlife bastard to his wife and children. He's a phony posturer who used a fake image to earn millions. All of this I agree with.

But, unlike you, I not only think he can recover, I WANT him to recover. I want him to succeed. I'd love for him to find the mute button on your clicker and the rest of the sanctimonious, whining, uxorious posters who would probably be most happy with castration.

While you run for the dictionary, I'll go get a cold one.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered Commentertlavin
Where does he start his 2010 golf? Torrey Pines, outside shot at Hawaii

How many starts does Tiger make? His usual amount, all FedEx Cup events, he'll take no chances with the $10mil now.

How many starts outside the U.S. does Tiger make? 3-4, now he needs the app fees.

How many wins? 8

The majors? 2 or 3, may threaten a grand slam. Almost a lock for Pebble and St. Andrews.

Of course I could be very, very wrong,..but I feel like this is going to make Tiger even tougher. I kinda agree with the thought that now the golf course will be his safe haven. I know it's been bad, but this too shall pass. The mystique may be permanently altered, but everything else on the golf course will remain the same...or get better. Seriously, if they teed it up tomorrow...would Tiger not be the favorite?
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterRM
WIth extra curricular activities curtailed, Woods will increase his focus on golf. He will be heckled quite a bit and will focus his way through it.

My forecasts:

1) He will ENTER MORE tournaments than he entered this year.

2) He will WIN MORE events than his 6 PGATour and 7 Federation victories posted in 2009.

3) He will win 2 majors, and maybe more.

4) He will end the year still ranked #1 in the world.

5) Ultimately he will break Nicklaus' record in the majors and Snead's record in total wins.

Smashing all time golf records will become his refuge from - and his reponse to - all the personal critcism that he will face on and off the course.

How many starts outside the U.S. does Tiger make? 0

And he will knock'er up again before Agusta

This was hte challenge Tiger needed, the get focused.

But I still think he is a ... a-hole, but a amazing competitor
12.10.2009 | Unregistered Commenterbig swede
I think before we start predicting how many tournaments he will play, majors he will win etc., we have a small matter of drug use to put to rest first.

With all the hoopla over the marriage and sluts galore, the drug issue has been somewhat forgotten about. I'm sure the Tour desperately would like it forgotten, but in all fairness, given the recent treatment of Doug Barron, I think this should be addressed either prior to or during his first appearance.

I am a 50 year old, African American who works in the golf industry at the Director level. The stories, coverage and revelations the past two weeks are disturbing on all sides and fronts. As a father my disappointment in Tiger Woods is immense. As a man - who in his own ways, not the same ways - is as flawed as young Tiger, I am maintaining a sense of perspective that has no room for hyperbole. Of this I am certain: most of us in this world have had our dirty laundry strewn about the street for all to see at some point and time in our lives, and when it occurs it is devastating whether deserved or not. However, the truest test of a person who chooses to be a champion in life is how they first weather, and then come back from those times. These are times and moments when you learn so much about yourself as a person, and the humanity - or lack thereof - of your fellow man or yes, even friends and associates. It forces you to look inward and affect change in order to survive. Frankly, Tiger Woods the PGATour (not PGA) star will win multiple golf events in 2010. One of the properties of golf is that once you begin to become more introspective and actually apply the lessons and principals of the game to your own life, you become better. More at peace. Tiger Woods has an opportunity. Note: "opportunity," to do just that. If he manages to do so, there will be no debates over whether or not he is the greatest golfer to ever live. He will prove it at a level he has yet to reach as a player, and unfortunately but obviously, also as a man. What he is going to learn is he cannot have one without the other. You cannot live a whole life as half a man. You can play golf as half a player as he has obviously been doing, since so far he has been half the man he can become. Finally, if he should lose every endorsement, every client, he still has his children first, and tremendous talent second. If he played with not a single logo, or symbol. If he drove a Chevy Vega from the airport after flying coach, this guy still would have won all 14 Major Championships, and over 70 events. Those things were and are authentic. If he cannot build on the combination of responsibility as a father and development of his talent, then who cares if and when he ever plays again? I say 2010 will be his greatest year ever on and off the golf course. Painful, but the greatest.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterGolfcal
He'll play more, and with his family in tow. He'll start slowly, but play well at courses where he feels comfortable, maybe even win. (He still is the best golfer on the planet, after all.) If he and his wife grow back together, he'll kill. If he and his wife (and by extension, his kids) grow apart, he'll crumble.

He is and wants to be The Man; if he's lucky enough to feel like The Man, he'll triumph, but if he feels like it's gone it will truly be gone.

- One half-cocked opinion.
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterDrK
I genuinely think he's going to struggle in 2010

He's going to feel embarassed about what has happened

His competitors are not going to have the same fear factor

He'll have to deal with more distractions, more paparazzi and a less supportive (and maybe hostile) crowd

He's going to have issues at home

All of those things are not good for his mind or his game - but he's brought it upon himself
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterAl
Very surprised by the apparently majority opinion that this dude wins 2 or more majors this year.

This guy's world has been turned upside down.

I think he struggles and wins none.

Good God almighty people ... if you're watching Nancy Grace tonight, Thursday, 12/10 ... and if Tiger has any sense ... he wouldn't even show up to play in my club's member-guest in 2010 … which, to be honest, is also populated by prescription drug abusers, adulterers, social frauds, gross fat men, handicap liars, and other entrepreneurs and famous Atlanta-area businessmen.

His world is so freaky and kinky and weird that I wouldn’t be surprised if his yacht is hijacked by a bunch of twitchy little Somalians and he’s made king of their fine west African nation and plays golf and fornicates there for the rest of his life.

So anyway, those are my thoughts on his 2010 schedule.

Sorry ... EAST African nation! I've had my big nightly whiskey. Fore!
12.10.2009 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Priss!
I'm not too sure on the number of starts for Tiger.

But unless he's got his driver under control, St Andrews is his only major (or best shot). People seem to forget the amount of poor shots he hit "under the gun" in this Year's majors. Plus the putts that, unlike for the majority of his career, stopped dropping.

He'll still win on Tour. He's too good not to. But, on what he produced this Year, 19 majors is no certainty (regardless of his off course issues). And I'm guessing there's plenty of things he's trying to resolve at present aside from being closed at the top of his backswing.

I'd just like to hear the same tone of voice I heard on the alleged voicemail message. A young man with a vulnerability about him that I could recognise as very human.

Win a tournament and let me hear that voice. That would be a start.

I would just like to reiterate my New Years 2010 Prediction again. Elin & Eldrick will pull up stacks and move to Monaco or Dubai. There is a slip in Monaco that's perfect for Privacy. And, there are some a great buys in Dubai. Our world will crumble as Tiger switches his citizenship to a European base (an amendment to the reconstituted Pre-Nup). Plays on the Euro PGA Tour and does for it what he had done for the PGA Tour. The rest of the talent will follow. The PGA Tour will absorb the Nationwide Tour to fill the ranks. He will join the European Ryder Cup team and they dominate. He will only play in the USA at the 3 Majors held on USA soil. The R&A will have him Knighted and........ well you get the picture.
