« "So it was the timing of it and the fact that Finchem just dropped everything and said, 'okay, whatever you want Tiger'. That's embarrassing when you think about it." | Main | More Tiger Statement-Reading Reviews »

"Why did he have a go at the media and why did he bring up his charity?"

Mark Reason talks to Chubby Chandler about Tiger's statement reading and the agent to Els and McIlroy cites two "blunders."

Chandler says: "Why did he have a go at the media and why did he bring up his charity? I'd have left those two bits out. He should just have been sorry and laid out what he's doing and what he's going to do.

"The more he says he doesn't want his wife and kid photographed, the more they're going try to do it. I don't get it. In our world the Beckhams are as high profile and they manage perfectly well."

And this was bold...

"I don't think Tiger will be No1 in five years. I think it will be one of the young kids. It could be Rory, it could be Kaymer, this Michael Sim is very good, for an 18 year-old Ryo Ishikawa is ridiculous. He's ahead of Rory. If you ask Rory who his hero is, it's Ishikawa. How's that? He says he's the coolest golfer in the world.

He says: 'How's my hero doing?'" Once upon a time 12 months ago Tiger Woods was Rory's hero. Now it's a teenager from Japan with sticky-up air.

That would be the same Chubby who guided Lee W and Darren C to all those majors? Oh wait, he sent them all over the world chasing appearance fees and they never quite made it to the top. Is he working with AK?

Fatty Chandler's comment like Els' is payback for Tiger saying Els does not work hard.

Well, Chandler may be a wind bag, but I suspect he is right that Woods will not be #1 in five years.

Maybe less than that.

I'm not sure he gets to 19 majors.

He might not be Number one in five years, but there's no doubt that, barring injury or another colossal bimbo eruption, he'll be there or very close. Is there anybody else on Tour, anybody, about whom one might confidently make such an assertion?

Uh, no.

How many majors does Chubby Chndler have?

Woods is a old 34, golfing and competition wise. He has been at this for so long.

He was already showing signs to me before this personal mess that he was losing that psychological edge he had on many of the rest. Yang kicked his ass.

His wins were being ice-picked out, the chain-saw massacres were a thing of the past.

Golf is a funny game. Things can leave you quick.

Wonder if tlavin will discombulate if his guy lays a 0 for 8 on us the next two years?

Re: Chubby's comments on the Beckhams and the kids: Unless I've missed it (and I likely have, given that my exposure to TMZ was minimal and I'd never even heard of radaronline prior to this story), but I don't think any of the gossip sites have disclosed the location of the Beckham kids' school[s]. TMZ and/or radaronline revealed the name of the school attended by Woods' daughter. I think that's disgraceful, unjustified and worthy of complaint.

"Wonder if tlavin will discombulate [sic] if his guy lays a 0 for 8 on us the next two years?" That's as likely as someone here discombobulating if Tiger wins even one.

Oh, wait . . .

He's spot-on about Ryo though. In addition to his extraordinary talent, the kid has amazing star quality.

In five years (well, as a matter of fact right now) it will not matter what some paid-off corporate sponsored world ranking system says about who is number 1 in the world. The fact is, when you get passed Phil Mickelson, there are almost no interesting American golfers who people will go out to tournaments to see. The stars of golf are all coming from places other than America and as many have already said before - playing on the PGA tour will not mean shit to the new stars of world golf as we move forward through the next decade.
