"We've not indicated that we have inside knowledge"

According to Doug Ferguson's notes column, the PGA Tour is prepping tournaments for Tiger's return, which we may find out about sooner than the Friday entry deadline.

PGA Tour spokesman Ty Votaw described the phone calls as typical conversations the tour has with its events on subjects ranging from media coverage to charity to television. In this case, another topic was added - the return of Woods.

"We've not indicated that we have inside knowledge," Votaw said. "We just want them to be aware so they're not scrambling."

The PGA Tour has indicated they have no inside knowledge. But they could still have inside knowledge!

No doubt advance tournament prep is required to handle the increase in attendance, in particular the first event after he performs his opening number at a venue with much tighter security. My guess is another topic was also discussed.

Golf fans in general are respecful, however, we have been advised that extra security will be on patrol to protect what the PGA Tour views as it's No. 1 property. Will Tim & Co. pick up the tab for the additional cost, or will it fall on the event ? Will they remove spectators for less than kind comments ? The TV viewer will never know, I'm sure a heavy finger will be at the ready in the production room. We'll need boots on-the-ground reporting in print, I have a feeling we'll hear more than U-DA-MAN !

@ Old Hornet.... yes the PGA Tour will have people removed for less than kind comments directed at TW or others. Recall that DL3 had a spectator tossed out at the WGC match play event for saying "No Love" and that Rory Sabbatini had a man removed from Firestone a few years back after a spectator said to him regarding the beat down TW was placing on him that Sunday "Still think he is beatable".

Mr. Hornet,

...We'll need boots on-the-ground reporting in print'...

Why, to make sure fans get to heckle Tiger without interference from the tour? Such fans at any sporting event need to be removed unceremoniously and immediately.

Especially haters like you.

Old Hornet, whether the tournament director will ever admit it or not the moment they find out Tiger debuts at their event will be a joyous one...and as for the extra security costs, those will be dwarfed by the gate revenues Tiger delivers -- it will be a financial BONANZA for said event.

Any of you that were SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS that TIGER WILL NOT PLAY THIS YEAR...

...still believe that? Fred? BigSky?

Mr. Spence,

That's a very large leap to accuse someone of being a TW hater simply for posing questions regarding crowd control, which I believe were answered by OWGR Fan (sans vile) as he apparently had little difficulty in comprehending the questions. It's import (if you care about the truth) to know how the fans that pay good money to attend tournaments will welcome back TW. Some will applaud, and some may not. What I want is the truth, not a sanitised version for public consumption put out by the Tour and the netwoks.

Speaking of hecklers, I think someone should heckle Woods with some jokes from Caddyshack. He says it's his favorite movie, so maybe he wouldn't get so offended if people use some lines from it to heckle him.

Old Hornet, in every event Tiger always has a plain clothes detail following him outside the ropes on both sides of the fairway...let's call it 3-5 guys on either side depending. They'll probably quadruple it and mix in some uniformed presence as well as a deterrent.

And to answer your other question, yes, they will absoutely toss some unruly people early and often in order to set expectations -- count on it.

Joe; spelling out T-I-G-E-R-W-O-O-D-S is only 10 characters. And, Joslyn James could easily be both "O" s. So somebody's liable to be left out, and that won't sit well at all with Gloria Allred.

And Geoff; the TOUR didn't "indicate" that they had no inside knowledge. Rather, Ty Votaw was only indicating that to date, the TOUR had not indicated that it had inside knowledge. If you are Ty Votaw, you need to be able to distinguish between indicating something, and indicating that you haven't indicated something. Glad I could sort that out for you.

Thanks OWGR and Dr. P, I had faith the questions would be answered intelligently.

BTW....although Nike stayed the course, I understand they've reconfigured the swoosh logo to resemble a sperm cell.

I'll be at Bay Hill, so I'll post any heckling that I hear in the very likely event that Tiger plays. I'm betting that he'll get a supportive reception with minimal boos or other negative commentary. I would think he'll be around 10-1 odds for winning. Were he to win, it would rank up with some of the most significant, non-major wins in Tour history, given the circumstances. It's not Hogan after the broken leg material, but it would be in the neighborhood.

Should he win as you surmise, it wouldn't be in the same category as Hogan, and to suggest that it would, shows little respect for Hogan's achievement.

Hogan came back from a horrific bus accident, Woods' problems are self inflicted.

Wow. Chuck can parse it with the best of them.

DGS:

Let me help you with your apparent literacy problem. I didn't "surmise" he would win; I merely said that he'd probably have 10-1 odds of winning and that if he did win, it would not be Hogan-like, but at least "in the neighborhood", so that hardly shows a lack of respect to Dan Jenkins raison d'etre.

As for your information that Woods' injuries are self-inflicted, gee thanks, I didn't realize that. Learn something new every day!

Tiger could recreate the scene where Bill Murray drills a new hole while talking dirty about the old ladies! I would pay many dollars to see this.

"In the neighborhood"??? yeah right - it wouldn't be even in the same town.

I'm glad you learned something though, as you seem to be a dedicated Woods lover.
