Jack, Gleneagles Back In Saddle Again

Douglas Lowe reports on Jack Nicklaus returning to undo David Kidd's redo of Jack's design.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the team at Gleneagles once again,” said the 70-year-old in an arrangement announced yesterday that marks a return to sweetness and light and the end of a prolonged ‘cold war’ during which alterations were said to have been made to the course without consultation with Nicklaus.

“We are very proud of our design at Gleneagles,” continued Nicklaus, “but due to technology, the game of golf has changed significantly since the course was completed and it is important that we continue to review the challenges it offers today’s players, both amateur and professional.

“The work which we will undertake should help ensure that the PGA Centenary Course is an ideal venue for the Ryder Cup in 2014 for players and spectators alike.”

Is it me, or does Jack speak like a press release writer sometimes?
