Mayor Lee Vetos Sharp Park's Death Knell

The S.F. Chronicle's City Insider Blog explains the Mayor's reasoning for vetoing legislation that likely would have ended future golf at Alister MacKenzie's Sharp Park.

If management of the land were transferred to the National Park Service, the golf course probably would be shuttered — a prospect that San Mateo County officials and U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, who represents the area, want to prevent. San Francisco park officials are considering transferring management of Sharp Park to San Mateo County.

“While they would probably do an OK job with the natural habitat, they would basically focus on that,” Lee said of the National Park Service. “We’re approaching a balanced approach with our partnership with San Mateo County.”

Under the Board of Supervisors-approved legislation, the affiliation with San Mateo County would not be permitted, Lee said, “and bring these productive discussions to a halt.”
