Stunning: Vermont Golf Course Damage

You have to feel for the golfers of Vermont who won't be getting in many fall rounds at several courses due to some of the worst golf course flooding you'll ever see.

F.X. Flinn posted this album of the damage to the Queechee Golf Course.

Tom Hoyt sent in several images, including one below (click on it to enlarge) of Montague Golf Club's 10th hole, which, he writes, is "a downhill par 3. The fairway and green are completely washed away, and the White River has moved itself about 75 yards closer to the hill ... to about where the end of the fairway was."

More of Tom's photos are in GolfDigest.com's reader created gallery of shots. Some of the shots are heartbreaking when you know how much work is ahead for these folks.

Brad Klein offers a roundup of select areas in the northeast and the impact of Irene, including a shot of Plainfield and comments from super Travis Pauley that makes it clear the PGA Tour would not have been able to play Monday, Tuesday or even Wednesday of this week.

Hosting a Tour event -- let alone a FedEx Cup playoff tournament -- is tumultuous enough. Add 9 inches of rain before the weekend and top it with another 9-inch soaker from Irene on Sunday during what would have been the final round and Pauley had the pumps working full throttle.

“We did OK,” he said. “Lost five trees on the course perimeter and have lots of water where it doesn’t drain out. So we’ve rounded up some electric pumps, and we’re doing the best we can.”
