No Grey Area: PGA Wants Bethpage Black

Mark Herrmann reports that new PGA President Ted Bishop did little to help the PGA of America's negotiating stance with New York state officials by declaring his love for all things Bethpage Black.

"We've just got some things to sort out with some dates in the future, but there is no decline in my interest," said Bishop, who took office last month. He and new chief executive officer Peter Bevacqua are in New York to name the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup captain Thursday.

"Honestly, I would have to tell you that if you asked me my goal for the next couple of years, it would be to make some kind of an announcement that something is going to happen at Bethpage," Bishop said.

The warmer weather would probably bring out a bigger drunken idiot contingent, which seems to be a Bethpage staple.

PGA loves the course just the way it is, but would have to redo only 18 of the greens, build new tees on 8 holes, and move/reshape bunkers on 14 holes...basically, the perfect venue for the PGA; minimal changes.
