Golf Channel Covering Captaincy Announcement

Granted, you might miss Al Roker interviewing the third runner-up from The Voice or, in celebration of Today correspondent Jenna Bush's pregnancy, a segment on how you too can have a child in your late 20s.

But I'm pretty sure I'll be tuned to Golf Channel for the Ryder Cup captaincy announcement, especially since Today is on tape delay.

For Immediate Release:

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 12, 2012 – Golf Channel will deliver all of the news surrounding PGA of America’s announcement of the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain selection Thursday morning with two Golf Central special presentations: an hour-long special at 8 a.m. ET and a second, 90-minute special at 10 a.m. ET.

Hosted by Kelly Tilghman, Frank Nobilo and Tim Rosaforte in Orlando and Steve Sands reporting from New York City, Thursday’s Golf Central special at 8 a.m. ET will cover the live announcement from New York City, when PGA of America President Ted Bishop will officially introduce the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain.

At 10 a.m. ET, Golf Channel will deliver a second Golf Central special, airing the U.S. Ryder Cup Captain’s news conference live from the Empire State Building at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Pathetic headline grab by the PGA and new fearless leader Ted Bishop. Absolute disgrace not to give this to Larry Nelson. When does Bishop go back to what he is actually qualified to do which is sell sweaters

The Today Show? The Empire State Building? Announcing captains picks at the NYSE? Why are they acting like any of this is important or newsworthy? Tiger's comeback speech. Now THAT was important. What's wrong with a good, old-fashioned blue curtain?

If Kelly Tilghman is involved is involved, I'm in. Actually I'm out. Who cares?
That would be your Golf Channel. First with the news, as always.

Sorry I will not be free to hear them spin the old story.

Three and a half hours on announcing the US Ryder Cup captain? How long does it take to say two words?
Somehow the announcement came on Golf Channel not the Today show. It's 8:45 and still no mention on NBC that I've seen.

All this bloviating instead of using airtime for what it should be used for early on Thursday mornings -- Tournament coverage, from lovely Leopard Creek, in this case.

What's to discuss? The surprise? Too late. The motivation? TGC would not touch that one with tongs. The public humiliation of one of the nicest guys in golf? Ditto. The glories of Watson and his popularity in Scotland (which has dwindled since this started?). Yawn.

Oh, well, I think the Golden Globes are also being announced today. Might bump the Watson announcement from some of the more frivolous programmes (it certainly did not make the CBC news).

Haven't watched the investiture this a.m.

Was Watson dressed in a flowing robe? Did Bishop tap him on each shoulder with a sword?

Watson should say that his first order of business is to make sure Ryder Cup losers like Furyk and Stricker never play on his team.
