"Would he have gotten there anyway? I think so, but not as fast without golf.”

Nice story by Garry Smits on the first ever Simpson Cup, a Ryder Cup-style event between U.S and Great British disabled vets at TPC Sawgrass.

The event is being held to highlight and benefit John Simpson's On Course Foundation.

Family members also see that in their loved ones who have taken up the sport through the On Course Foundation. Raelynn McAfee of Orlando, whose husband, John, sustained a brain injury, plus wounds to his chest, throat, back and arm while serving with the Army’s 32nd Calvary, is of the opinion that golf accelerated her husband’s healing process.

“It’s helped him across the board, not only for him but our family,” she said. “We’re truly blessed with the opportunity he’s had with the On Course Foundation. He was wounded 18 months before he got involved [with On Course] eight months ago, and he’s a different man in the last eight months. Would he have gotten there anyway? I think so, but not as fast without golf.”
