Video: Phil Fires 60 With Power Lipout On Last Hole
Fighting through the painful emotions of seeing old sparring partner Vijay Singh overcome some seriously bad press, Phil Mickelson fired an 11-under 60 in the opening round of 2013 Waste Management Open play.
As of now, the PGA Tour's YouTube page has posted Phil's birdie putt on the 8th hole, his 17th, which he left short. Why, I have no idea.
Thankfully, the putt we actually want to see was posted by a fan is now posted by the tour. Note the multiple cameras and great work by NBC's crew to capture the moment.

**Phil's post round interview with Mark Rolfing is fun...if you can handle the plugs for his new Callaway driver. Phil gets to see the lipout for the first time on video:
Geoff
**A wise reader who wished to remain nameless notes that some golfers shoot their age, with this 60 Phil shot his tax bracket.
Geoff
**Michael Collins caught up with Jim "Bones" Mackay in the parking lot to talk about the round.

Thanks to GC for getting it on line. (+Verizon!)
11 birdies, no bogeys. Pretty stellar, Phil. And who saw that coming after last week's desultory play? Golf is a crazy game.
BrianS, hilarious!
OMG, that that was brutal...
SO what are the early returns on Notah? Seems to me like he's doing a darn solid job. Maybe some Notah Bingo?!?
It was processing to go live when you wrote your post :)
Not afraid to eat a little crow...Notah is doing a great job...but wait till he calls Tiger's shots...slurp
Brian S.-funny stuff!
Haven't seen any golf today, but Notah doing well IMHO, and what does Notah Bingo mean?
Notah's comment on tour pro's being "Drama Queens" after Kyle Stanley's display on 12 tee was good...i wonder if any of the pro's care what he says
-slurper

(add to it as you see fit)
Then we set an over/under on how many posts it takes to complete the list!
I think it's a wonderful idea but haven't gotten much traction yet...mainly because ADG is making himself scarce during weeks when the tournament at hand does not *count*.
NOTE: next tourney that *counts* is Matchplay, then Doral and then the Masters.
FTR, Sir Bob Charles has 1 win that *counts*. Hmm, but there is that pesky little deer spray issue.
...what are the odds Phil wins this event? I hope the heck he does. If he does wonder if it will be viewed as a signal for him to move back to AZ?
You know Geoff Ogilvy recently picked his family up and moved from California back to AZ. His reasoning was that missing out on the money games at Whisper Rock was the reason he wasn't so sharp when he took his game out on Tour. There we go, another precedent!
ok, i get it ... his putt lipped out.
What's the over/under on the 'lip out' being replayed this weekend... 59?
Specifically like how Phil gave credit to Bones on one of the par 3s. That he was thinking about a different club. It makes me feel better when I'm out playing to know that the top players have the same questions that I do.
Regarding Stephanie Wei. I used to read her blog quite a bit. Several commenters would suggest she tighten-up what she wrote. After about the fifth time of her suggesting that if they don't like her 'style' they just don't read it, so I just stopped reading her site.
During the first round, he was bland and was almost void of insight.
Notah: "Kaymer was 2-over after the first three holes. That's not how you want to start a tournament."
Really? No shit. I had no idea that Kaymer wouldn't want to start a tournament like that.
#sarcasm
Most of Begay's comments hover around that level of quality.
However, I will give him a couple of mercy points. In the 30 mins I watched, there were no references to his BFF. And, there were no glaring screw ups.
3 out of 10.
"Notah's comment on tour pro's being "Drama Queens" after Kyle Stanley's display on 12 tee was good" -Ump-
"Seems to me like he's doing a darn solid job." -DTF-
Looks like you're hanging out there alone ADG...certainly that's a normal state of affairs.
"Well I'm right next to the players on the 12th green Kenny, have to keep my voice down."
It's a nice break from all the crowd noise yelling and screaming "Mashed Potatoes", etc
I love it!
Does it "count"? Brilliant!
Can you please list the all the on-course announcers who don't speak low and tend to whisper?
Feherty should be fired. And he is far too low a standard to which to compare Notah. Even I am fair, after all.
DTF, you're got Bobby D, Ump, and .... yourself? (WTF) all aboard Notahmania.
Anybody else to add to the list?
And, are you keeping yourself on your list?
...how about giving us a list of on course announcers that fill the rest of the spectrum? Or should we say your spectrum?
10 - ?
8 - ?
7- ?
5 - ?
3 - Notah
Be nice for us to know who *counts*, and who doesn't. And where's the line of demarcation? Is a 7 viewed as acceptable? A 5?
Why don't you write our your list of favorite on-course announcers? Mine will be the inverse of that.
Can you do that?
Does Torrey count as a major? Does it count? Shall we elevate the Farmers Insurance/ Buick Invitational / Andy Williams Izuzu Invitational to major status? Shall we make it count?
Let me know if that works for ya?
Ump and me makes 3! Obviously Judy Rankin is also in our camp, I'm sure you think she's a dumb idiot.
And then there's you...see if you can get someone else to join you, someone who agrees with 3 of 10.
We've long since cleared up the rules on what *counts*. Only events with 70 or more OWGR points, plus Memorial when you find the winner to be suitable and the Euro's aren't tired. FYI, Farmers awarded 50 and Qatar 48.
In case you missed it, win totals for events that *count* are:
- Kenny Perry 3
- Rory 4
- Phil 8
- Vijay 9
- Bob Charles 1
- Calc 1
- Daly 2
- T Clark 1
- Jet Ski 1
- 3 Iron -0-
- Tiger 41
As for on-course announcers, I'm really can't think of a single one that's doing a better job than Notah... B.R. Brown, nope. Kostis, nope. Feherty, nope. I do like Maltbie.
Did you know Rory is now in his 7th calendar year as a touring professional? Time flies huh....
