Gary Player Bolts From Gate In The Blame Caroline Stakes

It was only a matter of time, but at least Gary Player didn't invoke a Yoko reference in suggesting that young Caroline Wozniacki isn't helping Rory McIlroy's golf game.

Speaking to My Sporting Life (you can listen to a 1:30 excerpt too):

“When you’re in love as a young man naturally golf seems to take second place for a while. It’s natural. Love is still the greatest thing that ever happens in our lives.

“But the thing is for a man like Rory with talent galore he’s got to make sure he has a woman like I’ve got, who has been married [to me] for 56 years, that has only encouraged me to do well and made sacrifices.

“He’s got to be intelligent and find the right wife. If he finds the right wife, if he practices and if he’s dedicated, he could be the man.”

Oh dear. I am sure Gary thinks this comes off sounding sincere and loving, but good grief is every old white guy a total idiot or what?

I love Gary Player!

Rory's best combo was... prior clubs... prior girlfriend.

Tiger's best combo was... prior caddy... prior girlfriendS.

Let me guess. Rory didn't ask Gary for advice.

Gary Player=Shameless self-promoter

I agree with Gary. This Caroline lass should stop messing around with her little hobby and get on with her real job in the kitchen.

I wouldn't wish 56 years of Caroline Wozniacki on anyone.

Really? A) Rory's best golf came last yr, when he and Caroline were dating

B) a wife's job is to make sacrifices for her husband? And that's the ideal of what you should look for in a woman? Rather than say someone who also wants a career, and is talented?

They're still dating, and he has had a pretty torrid 7 months. Someone likened her to Memo in The Natural -- I think that's a bit harsh. But neither of them seems to be accomplishing much in their chosen professions. She's dropping like a stone, and his performances are limping, to say the least.

Agree with you about the sacrifice stuff. That ship has sailed. (Unless you're Anthony Weiner's wife).

Most folks refer to her as Huma Abedin....

Stay in the kitchen, do the laundry, never leave the house and support your man. Duh. Wake up Gary - this is 2013.

Could it be that Gary prefers tennis players to play in white so that they blend in with the other domestic appliances in his kitchen?

Egads. How does Gary make it through the day?
07.29.2013 | Unregistered CommenterLeeWatson
If only Gary's opinions were as youthful as his body.
07.29.2013 | Unregistered Commenter3foot1
Actually, it kind of sounds like everyone is getting into Rory's "kitchen"

It may take a couple of years to sort out this mental quagmire he is in.

Pretty awkward way for Gary to say that Rory really enjoys getting his lance waxed more then hitting the driving range or putting green.

I don't suppose there are sacrifices made by anybody in order to succeed at a high level in our current, politically correct-type world. Take your participation ribbon and pay the rent with it.
07.29.2013 | Unregistered CommenterPepperdine
Gary's message is correct. Clearly not considered politically correct, but factually it is correct. Dating a high profile person like C-Woz compromises his ability to be prepared. This certainly wasn't the case with Holly.

@DTF -

Bingo. I'd imagine dating Rory isn't doing wonders for Caroline's performance lately either.
07.29.2013 | Unregistered CommenterPepperdine
Caroline may be a perfect partner or not I do not know. But I do know that I am not the only guy that thought he was the subject of a Marshal Tucker song: "Can't you see, oh can't you see, want that woman's been doin to me"
How about Rory taking responsibility for his own problems? Oh wait, he has. It's others who are blaming the girlfriend.
