R.I.P. Eisenhower Tree

The first photo surfaced at GolfClubAtlas.com and Scott Michaux confirms that the Eisenhower Tree, one of golf's iconic course features and an annual reminder of the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower, has succumbed to damage from last week's ice storm.

Despite vague assurances earlier in the week from the club that its most iconic trees survived the ice storm, a picture that surfaced on the weekend showed significant damage to the majestic loblolly pine that guarded the left half of the 17th fairway.

It’s a picture only the former President of the United States himself -- who famously hated the tree that bore his name -- might smile about.
