Tiger Is Patrick Reed's "Twin Star" According To The Wife

Patrick Reed is dreaming big when it comes to the Ryder Cup, writes Brian Keogh in a blog item about the new WGC Cadillac winner's aspirations to be paired with Woods in foursomes at Gleneagles.

Currently fourth in the standings, Reed has longed to make Team U.S.A.

"I don't know if I would be really nervous as much as really excited, especially on the first day where it is team and if I hit a bad tee shot, my partner will be able to pick me up.

"I'd love to play alternate shot with Tiger Woods. Why? Best golfer who ever lived. We wear black and red.

Excuse me, I hate to interrupt here, but HE wears black and red. You are copying him, to be accurate. But go on...

"I feel that with the shot-making he has and the shot-making I have and with our short games, that would be a team that would be extremely hard to beat.

"My wife actually calls him my twin star. I am reckless like he is. I like to go for everything. But at the same time, that's how we win events, that's also how we lose events. It's one of those things that we don't play scared. That would be pretty fun."

I'm just going let that last quote linger on its own.

But first, Tiger needs to make the team for Reed's dream to come true. He's not in the top 25 in the current points standings.

Well, they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

I'm almost willing Tiger Woods' back to get better quickly in the hope of seeing them paired together in a tournament.

Interesting point re Tiger not currently on track. If the Ryder cup was a month away, I honestly don't think Watson would choose him for a captain's pick.

The guy wins three times and thinks he's Tiger Woods...

He's just coming across as arrogant really.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRichD
I think he comes off as a goofy clueless nerdy kid with enormous talent.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterPat
Lets be real, Pat. It won't mean a thing where he's ranked. Watson may not want to pick him, but such matters are preordained in the name of ratings and greenbacks. Patrick is dreaming if he thinks he'll become Tiger's BFF dressed in red & black. Sam is way ahead of him in that ranking.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterProtect the Game
He's writing quite a few cheques (checks) with that mouth of his. There's probably not enough money in the bank right now to cover them all; but if he manages to keep up a standard of play which ultimately justifies what he's saying, then kudos to him.

Pretty sure that whole Red Nike shirt on Sunday thing was started by Curtis Strange.

Tiger Who? Lol.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterJohnnnycz
Right now there are 26 players between Tiger Woods and the last automatic selection for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRgw
Twin star? More like Woods's Pepe le Pew. This guy could actually make TW a sympathetic figure.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRon
@Johnnnycz: I think Lee Trevino can be the first to lay claim to the Sunday red.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterPJ
Tiger listed 15th on pga.com. Color me confused.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterAmen Coroner
Do they still give double points for majors in RC points, if so then Tiger will be just fine. You'd have to be a real hater for him not on the USA team. He might not be a 4 pt guy but he wouldnt be a liability either.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterStreaky Putter
Nothing wrong with being confident but this guy has gone too far. He will be roasted by the media over these comments when his game finally cools off. Probably didn't help himself with Tiger either.

Thinking tiger might want to look into a restraining order...
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterElf
No worries about Tiger making the squad - Reed will simply put in a word for him with Coach Tom - he says he needs an alternate shot partner right ?

Seriously, my guess Tiger makes it on points, but even if he doesn't (if healthy), he gets the pick - and not just because of money/ratings/whatever. The team is shaping up to be about 1/2 rookies, and they will need Tiger and Phil there. Furyk and Stricker, not so much, they will need to win their way on.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBrianS
@streaky they still give double pts for majors. Here's the fun one though, because their have been 6 events added to the qualifying system (the fall events), major points don't mean as much as they used to (more points dilutes each event).
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterElf
I'm sure there's a points summary somewhere, but Tiger won 5 times last year...in big events. How is he outside the team right now? Is the current year weighting that strong that this year's money leaders are the leaders for the Ryder Cup automatically?
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterJS
Protect the game is correct, it doesn't matter where Tiger is on points, he'll be on the team. Nobody has the balls to face the music of not picking him for the team.

This guy might be what TW needs to get fired up.

03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterGinGHIN
@JS - the only points that matter from the 2013 Season (ending at the TC) are from the majors. So Phil basically got his points from the Open Championship and the 2nd place at the US Open. The only points Tiger has earned this year would be from this past weekend, to go along with last years Majors.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBrianS
Too bad Mark McCormack is gone.

He could have set up a Big Two Challenge golf series with Patrick and Tiger taking on the rest.

think Trevino wore red because he said "if i slit my throat on Sunday people might not notice"

and what if Woody, implausible as it seems, keeps playing shitty all year? if so I would hope Watson has the cajones not to pcik him...esp. since the formers Ryder cup record isnt exactly superb

Hilarious! Love it!!

Pat said: "Interesting point re Tiger not currently on track. If the Ryder cup was a month away, I honestly don't think Watson would choose him for a captain's pick."

I agree...nor should he. To me this is the reason Watson was picked, he has the balls to mix it up and do the right thing (which may not be the popular thing or what DL3 would do). Love him or hate him Bishop isn't afraid to take a stand and if Ryder Cup was a month away I think he'd support Watson's choice to leave Tiger off the team -- this may be the one thing that could put Bishop and Finchem's BFF status at risk!

USA is 1-5 in last 6 Ryder Cups. Their lone victory was in 2008, the year Tiger Woods wasn't on the team.

Just sayin'...

<< "My wife actually calls him my twin star. I am reckless like he is." >>

Uh, Justine..... you know that "reckless" on the golf course may be okay but it can also lead to small inconveniences such as fast-moving fire hydrants, etc.

Here's the scenario: Woody's back problems go away, he wins a few and finishes high in all the majors. He's on the team. However, if he DOESN"T play well, it will all be owing to the recurring spasms and TW (now still way down the list) will simply tell Captain Tom Watson that "I'd love to go but I just can't." I'm certainly doubting that Woodhead will feel great and simply play crappy to wind up somewhere between 20 and 30 on the list.... forcing Watson to Make A Big Decision.

And as for the loquacious Patrick Reed, we all recall how Hunter Mahan won early twice back in 2012 but fell way off after that and was simply left behind. If Reed is like (nearly) every other golfer, he simply cannot play great week in and week out but I think watching this kid try to back up the yap will be more than entertaining. As Reggie Jackson used to say, "It ain't bragging if you can do it." If Reed continues to back up the chatter with serious play, he'll earn a spot..... and stand on that first tee asking "What.... Tiger didn't make it? But he's supposed to be my pards!"

Golf, the most humbling of games, briefly allows you a ride on a crest of a wave, but before you know it, you are struggling in a riptide. Just a matter of time, with no exceptions.

Oh, and while this will be lost in all the "bragging" hoopla, this morning Patrick Reed was on Golf Channel to clarify that he "CAN BE" a top 5 player "someday."

Anyone who thinks Tiger isn't going to be on the Ryder Cup team this fall - barring injury, of course - is partaking of a little too much of Colorado's latest legal product. There are way, WAY too many casual golf fans like my buddy in Dallas whom I visited last week. Direct quote: "I don't care about golf but if Tiger's playing, I watch. If not, I don't. SImple as that."

Digger has it right, just a few posts above me. (how was the latest round, BTW?)
03.11.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRickABQ
Everyone on here who says Tiger Woods should not be on the Ryder Cup team or "be forced to make it outright" is an idiot. Last time I checked, he is currently the number 1 ranked player in the world and won 5 times on TOUR last year.

Tom Watson would be out of his mind for not picking Tiger Woods for the Ryder Cup team, even if it were played NEXT WEEK. I'd truly love to hear anyone support the idea that he is not worthy.

Wait a minute, actually.. let's take Kevin Stadler instead. Great idea.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered Commentergolfboy3
Does Patrick act "reckless" OFF the course too? Maybe she should call Elin.

Really this guy is coming off as a real d-ck. Kinda of funny cause ever time I have met some guy who wore one of those necklaces I always thought they were d-cks.
03.11.2014 | Unregistered Commenterv60golfer
I'm sure Tiger, Jack, Tom and Arnie all thought the same thing inside. Just that they were classy enough to keep it a thought.

Got to give Tiger his credit, he lets his clubs do the talking.

Back when I worked in sales many moons ago, I'll never forget what my sales manager often told us. "When you've sold the product to the customer and you're about to close the deal, stop selling. Otherwise you'll end up buying it back from him."

That concept might apply here.
