Take That Timmy: NFL’s Goodell Spotted In Green Jacket

Leave it to Golf Channel Digital, who I shared a Georgia Peach ice cream sandwich with today in the media center, to have spotted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a green jacket.

That means the NFL commish is a member and PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem is not.

The club traditionally does not comment on its membership, though Chairman Billy Payne did make a special exemption in the case of Condoleeza Rice and Darla Moore, the first female members admitted in 2013.

I am surprised but they seem to like jocks: holtz, Lynn Swann I think is a member...wonder why Jordan never got asked?

No MJ because they don't allow denim cargo shorts/pants on the course.

Lynn Swann, Lou Holtz, Pat Haden... is Spurrier a member?

Hard to imagine Michael pointing patrons toward the concession stands or whatever...I'm sure he could clean up his attire.

Watching the online coverage today at work during lunch, I thought this is the future of the NFL coverage.

No surprise there, PGA Tour Commissioner Fichem would have a broad and fundamental conflict-of-interest if he was also a member of the Augusta National Golf Club.
I would be surprised if Commissioner Finchem wasn't a permanent special-guest of Chairman Payne during the year.
Goodell has asked the club to bulldoze the property to 1% grade or less in order to reduce slips and potential head injuries.

Well, they did add punt, pass, and kick, so it just follows....

I had heard that Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were the only two professional golfers that also were members of the ANGC in their own right...not just Green Jacket-wearing past Masters Tournament champions.
Georgia Peach ice cream sandwich sounds absolutely delightful. I have to admit I'm a fan of an ice cream sandwich and I've never had one with peach flavored ice cream. I do however enjoy peach flavor... so Geoff, please expand and tell me a little more about this delicacy. What kind of cookie or biscuit makes up the top and bottom of this sandwich? Damn!! now I'm going to be thinking about this while sitting at my desk.

If you are a member at ANGC and attend the Masters, are you required to wear the jacket?

Down here Blue Bell offers ''homemade'' peach icr cream, when the peaches are in sason, and the area around LBJ's ranch, and Luchenbach for the more important reference point is peach orchard territory, and fresh peaches and vanilla ice cream is a cause for a Sunday drive from Austin or San Antonio.

Texas peaches are not the large variety, but they are sweeeeeet!

Has the tournament started? I've been in the kitchen.

Never seen him before.

He kinda reminds me of the guy who is always chasing after his daughter after she's been "Taken".

When you see Goodell in his Augusta garb, think about the Conrad Dobhler's of the NFL who died without proper medical care just so the commish can enjoy his membership

To JWB, if want to remain a member, the answer is YES! They all wear their Green Jackets no matter how hot it is!

Goodell being a member gives me hope that I can get in someday.

Press Agent,
If you must...the peach ice cream is just faintly peach, almost closer to pistachio flavor. It's exquisite. The cookies are a doughy sugar cookie, not too dry and just the right texture. They are $3. I will gain at least 2 pounds this week.

Whatever you do, make fun of the Commisioner of the PGA Tour and verbally hug the Chairman of this major.

The tradition of members wearing the green jackets began so the patrons (heh, there's an ancient Southernism for you, a word no doubt new in that context the first time Cliff heard it from Bob) would know whom to ask for information. I wonder if that still holds? I can see it now: Hey, you, Mr. "Rules" Ridley, where's the nearest loo? And there goes my next lottery entry, right down the tubes.

tlavin,
Whatever you do, make fun of everyone for hating Tiger and verbally hug Tiger Woods.

Maybe if you saw Finchem in schmooze mode, at Augusta, if you were here, you'd see that he might just like to be a member. Not that that makes him a bad person.

Any sign of the IBM CEO in a green jacket?

Thanks Geoff, sounds great!
Since I'm not likely to get to the Masters to try one anytime soon, I may have to try this recipe:

One thing that Tim does not appear to be is an avid golfer.

He has said on a couple of occasions that he virtually never plays and that he more into cooking (not kidding).

Other potential candidates would make more use of the membership.

Say, Conrad, I'm just curious. Is there a reason you're spelling the real Dobler's name wrong as well as your own screen name?

It's "Dobler," you know and -- for the record -- he is still very much ALIVE. And yes, his post football life has been very difficult. But at least Goodell is enjoying his $44.2 million dollar salary.

Phil Mickelson, by the way, is putting Dober's two children through college.

Ah, the Ginger Hammer. He rules the NFL with an iron fist and makes the disciplinary decisions. He also hears the appeals to those decisions...so, I assume a guy like that fits right in around there
