Holly Sonders Jumps To Fox Sports!

Nice scoop by Martin Kaufman that Holly Sonders is leaving Golf Channel for Fox Sports in a deal that will have her appearing on the new USGA package and NFL Sundays.

Kaufman writes:

Sonders was in the midst of contract discussions with Golf Channel and “we didn’t come to terms,” according to a spokesman.

“We wish her the best in her future endeavors,” he said, declining further comment.

My sources say Sonders wanted to be reunited with husband Erik Kuselias, who was living in Connecticut and will be leaving his gig at NBC Sports Network.

Let it be recorded that I predicted this in one of the threads about the Fox/USGA deal. Holly is a Fox kind of personality. Take that however you want.

When did she marry Kuselius? I thought they were just doing the dirty deed together.

Faithful,

I believe she'll be required to dye her hair a blonde-like colour ... as it seems to be a requirement of the Fox News tele-ladies? I am quivering. You?.

In Golf,

Professor Tait
Not a fan but good luck to her.

A Big Whop dee ding dong. WHat a surprise!!! by FOX. Now she can sit at the end of the table and show some leg. ITs a classic FOX pose for any of their wonderful and enlightening programming.

An uncommon a amount of nastiness toward Sonders here. I don't get it. She works hard, is well-spoken and, without question, knows the game quite well. The cosmetics end matters--a lot--and she perhaps takes excessive advantage of it. But essentially, you have a young person trying to improve her life and working hard to do so. she's fairly courageous and has done everything GC has asked her to do, she comes to work on time and doesn't big-league anybody. Leaving Golf Channel is a huge decision for her, and she's taking the plunge despite not having more than. 2-3 year contract. Not ways.

And the trolls just crucify her.Sshe deserves decency and a fair take.

No idea who she is, but guessing from the posts in this forum that she is both smarter than the posters on this thread and also unattainable to them.

What happened with Kuselias and NBC, was he "promoted" again?
Bye Bye Holly, I love you anyway.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRoger Fanbelt
Kuselias hosts the NBC NFL show Pro Football Talk seen (not seen) on NBC SPORTS HD channel. Wouldn't be surprised if Kuselias also makes jump to FOX and NFL related programming.

Pro Football Talk will become daily again when the NFL preseason starts in late July.

Always thought Kuselias looked out of place on original Morning Drive. He was such a loud talk radio/NFL guy and he is better suited to current gig. Morning Drive had one great benefit to him, he worked with and married Holly Sonders. It is a fact that many people today meet their spouse at work.....

Des;pite her buxsom appeal, I think she did a pretty good job for GC....she laughed at herself and had enough "game" to hang with top players in the on-course lesson show. She'll be missed. Too bad Fox couldn't have taken Kelly Tilghman but guess she is not their "type.''
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterTee vee trivia
I thought she had a good chemistry with Matty G....guess she couldn't convert him from his beverage-cart girls obsession. Whatever...

\Can't quite picture her in a major role on the US Open, a la Bob Costas doing interviews and handling the trophy presentation. I think it might cheapen the event.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterMedia driven
She's great. Bright, personable, pretty and she knows the game.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered Commentertlavin
Good luck to her. She was excellent on the Golf Channel. No need to besmirch someone out of habit.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBuffett
If anything, I think her looks kind of masked the fact that she did know the game. I think she was really great on Golf Channel, but...no offense intended...she will not be difficult to replace. A young, attractive, former collegiate golfer? I think they can find one of those. They just need to be careful to let her replacement develop confidence.

She's making a big career decision and I hope it works out for her!
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterLip Out
My mornings will never be the same. She is eye candy - yes. But she had a lot of personality w/o taking her self too seriously.

And she played golf. What's not too like. Too bad - no more Holly hits in the morning.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered Commentercpaman
There is a girl on PGATour.com, Amanda B who has a very nice way about her who would slide in quite nicely. Or...they could try to find the blonde chick from the original Big Break who every girl in the house hated because she took so long to get ready in the morning. What the hell was that girl's name? She disappeared after they found out she had done calenders and a few other things earlier in life.

I want Win McMurry back. Like Holly, wish her well.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterAG
Lots of overtime being put in at Golf channel studios this weekend as they recut all their promos to remove her. They had gone all-in on Ms. Sonders and just about every promo they showed had her in it somewhere.

@ Harv "What the hell was that girl's name? She disappeared after they found out she had done calendars and a few other things earlier in life." +1

Danielle Aimee

She could play, and actually won the Big Break event she was in!

Wonder what the money difference was?? I don't think GC wants to pay anyone the big bucks, which is why they will continue to wallow in mediocrity/
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterMedia driven
I have to wonder how much of a career move it is for her. Sure, she's probably going to be making more money, and if she wants to be closer to her husband, fine, but how much exposure is she going to get? She's not going to be an on-course reporter, tower announcer, or in the booth for the U.S. Open. Maybe she plays the Tom Rinaldi role of pre/post round interviewer? And lets face it, the viewership numbers for all of other USGA events that Fox has will be minimal except for the men's Open. I also wonder how much work she'll get as a sideline reporter. This late in the summer, Fox has to have most of their talent lineups in place for the NFL season. I'm guessing she slides into Fox's 5th or 6th announce team, somewhere where she won't be working every week, and when she does it will be on the the worst matchup of the week, with presumably the lowest number of viewers. How many total hours of air time is she going to get on an annual basis vs. what she gets now?
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterChris Charles
Good grief! I hate the Bimbo sideline announcers in every sport, especially football. They should all be dropped. Hope she doesn't become one of those. Did see one good side line interview tho. It was half time. One team was getting blown out and the side line babe sticks her mike in the poor coaches face and asked "what are you going to say to your team? Coach: "nothing of going to tell you", and runs off. Booth, not paying attention. "nice job-----".
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLB
I'll end with this. She came to Chicago. For nothing. Played in a Evans Scholars outing and headlined an auction that raised a LOT of money for free college scholarships for deserving caddies. Case closed.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered Commentertlavin
Best sideline quote ever... John McKay, 0-14 Tampa Bucs. "Coach, what do you think of your team's execution"? McKay... "I'm in favor of it".
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterAG
BS.... Close enough.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterAG
BenSeattle, As we know from your past comments your personal life is considered by you to be above reproach. That is wonderful but why is Kuselius' personal life any of your business?
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBuffett
@Pro, Good call. Although if I remember correctly one of the things they found out after the show was that she had a couple different names going. She was a character and the other chicks hated her. Good stuff.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered Commenterol Harv
I also like Lauren Thompson a bunch, besides the obvious, her fun personality really does shine through. But she lacks golf cred that Holly has (had). Another big breaker / player they could go after for the presenter spot might be Sara Brown, currently on Symetra Tour I believe. She actually played with Holly at MSU, and is quite hot and has a good personality. How that would translate to TV it is hard to say.

On the Fox team, I also think that Fox is grooming Stephanie Wie for the on course or maybe just the post round reporter.
07.12.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBrianS
There goes her dream of becoming a Class A PGAofAmerica pro.

Martin Hall must be devastated....and perhaps relieved?
07.13.2014 | Unregistered CommenterJohnnnycz
She is a solid reporter who knows the game, no Judy Rankin, but pretty solid. Famous for over doing the implants. she knows her golf technically and I'll bet she doesn't get many players refusing one on one's.
07.13.2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill V
@Tlavin - So you are saying that despite the way she dresses and is made up, she has a heart of gold?

@BillV - nice setup line there at the last.
07.13.2014 | Unregistered CommenterGreg B.
Holly was my favorite GC personality. She had personality, looks, and golf smarts.

She will be missed and hard to replace.
07.13.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDonW
Chris Charles hit the nail on the head. For those of you who want to see holly - you will be seeing a lot less. Unless you are excited for the Women's Mid-am post round coverage in fox sports 2. Or you happen to live in Jacksonville for Fox's regional coverage of the Jags vs Titans game. Maybe one step forward for her to network coverage but two steps back as far as exposure. So fans of Holly won't see much of her at all.
BrianS, Not sure if she is "officially" with FOX already but at the US Open SW was doing interviews for them with a FOX handheld camera/mic device.
07.13.2014 | Unregistered Commenterol Harv
Hopefully this means that playing lessons with the pros will be about, you know, the pros. I don't give a crap what Sonders does or doesn't do while playing a round of golf with (inserttourpronamehere). Show me the pro, and show me what they do.
07.14.2014 | Unregistered CommenterPat(another one)
I will miss watching Holly swing a golf club. One of my fave things on the GC. ;=]
07.14.2014 | Unregistered CommenterRLL
I agree with Tee Vee Trivia when he said...

"Despite her buxsom appeal, I think she did a pretty good job for GC....she laughed at herself and had enough "game" to hang with top players in the on-course lesson show. She'll be missed"

I will miss her as well, she had a good personality, she could play the game and she seemed to like hanging out with the guys - there was none of that "I have to beat the guys" attitude that some women exhibit. She had excellent chemistry with Martin Hall on the School of Golf and she also did a great job on "Playing Lessons". Given her pleasant personality and golfing ability, she would be a welcome addition to any foursome. Golf Channel blew it on this one.
07.14.2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandtrap
Joe Friday, what's the problem?

GC prob gets more of my viewing budget with her gone, definitely. Found her shtick very phony. Now if Damon Hack would get an offer away, please!
07.14.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
And I second Harv's observation....Amanda Balionis does a tremendous job. Poised, solid/natural delivery, no jive...she will be making a big step forward soon.
07.14.2014 | Unregistered CommenterDTF
"I think you should accept that you aren't welcome here and stay away."

digger has been posting here for years and is one of the most easy going guys there is...

...for you to say something like that, well, there must be some sort of problem -- what is it?
