Tiger Update: PGA Extends Registration Deadline, But He's Got A Primo Parking Space At Valhalla If He Wants It

Kind of a slow news day on the Tiger front until late, as I outline in this Loop item.

Here is the media alert from the PGA regarding registration that allows Tiger to drag this out as long as possible:

The deadline for registering for the 2014 PGA Championship was 5:00 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday, unless a player notified the PGA of America that he would be registering late.  Any player who notified the PGA has up until his tee time in the opening round to register.

"Any player who notified the PGA has up until his tee time in the opening round to register." So another golfer can't fill the slot.
Will he be playing in the Pro Am tomorrow?

There is no Pro-Am at any of the four Majors or The Players Championship.

It's not clear: did Woods in fact request an extension which the PGA then granted him?
08.5.2014 | Unregistered CommenterPasaplayer
Yes, he did, and they did.

@ Colin Wonder who is next on the Alternate List? Appears they won't get a practice round if TW decides to withdraw at his Tee Time.

@ pasaplayer I guess we are waiting for Ty Votaw to make a statement, or not.
Drama Queen. WWJD! (What would Jack Do?) Bubba should just shut the .......................up.

Brandel made it clear that this is SOP, but it just usually doesn't make news...

Beyond parody. He might as well roll up on Thursday morning with a back brace AND a neck brace on. Maybe a Smails era Rolls Royce with a Putt 3 license plate. What a boner.

How about jetting in early Thursday morning and then a motorcade or copter to the first tee, all televised and covered breathlessly by TGC and ESPN. Works for me.

@Doug.... I'm certain your post and Brandels comment on the extension will fall mostly on deaf ears.

Six other players received the same extension.

@fyg -

You mean the classic Tavistock Cup entrance?

Parking space for Tigers cart used of course because of his medical issues!
@Pro- alternates get to practice.

I actually hope he plays. It will validate the fact that he faked it last Sunday. Think he will break 80? Could he possibly shoot a 90? I have to admit I watched his front 9 last Sunday in complete amazement. It was so surreal seeing TW swing like a 15 hdcp. Quick from the top, no tempo, not finishing his backswing, almost casting it, the only thing missing was the Over the Top Chop move. It's just crazy to think that TW has the yips on tee shots.

If he plays, I bet we get 4 to 5 holes of FORE!!! Then another acting job and a cart ride. "It's somewhere in my lower back" "Tiger, could you be more specific?" "Just my lower back area" "It happened on #2" "you mean the shot where you jumped down into the bunker then bounded out gracefully without any wincing or grimacing?" "Yeah, that one" LOL

What a mind f**ck the game of Golf is. No one is spared.....

I hope he plays too, but I bet he is out.

6 professional golfers have been asked to play in this is major, and are thinking about it still!?

please can we take this spiced up pga tour event major overseas.

This major is by no means major.

or just have 3 great majors and laugh this one off.

QQ's - do alternates get to have practice rounds? are they compensated by the tour for their costs and time in the area while they wait or do they just have to take the costs as given?

The longest car crash in history.

He could do the classic tee off then withdraw. I hope he wouldn't but it would mess with Phil a little, and that may still be a small motivation.

Does anyone know who the next alternate is? I looked and didn't find the list.
08.6.2014 | Unregistered CommenterMattS
Original Alternate list. Not sure who is next in line, but Jerry Kelly is IN, and Pat Perez is IN.

Anyone know who is now #1 Alternate?

ALTERNATES: Jerry Kelly, Pat Perez, Shawn Stefani, John Huh, Robert Garrigus, Justin Hicks, Andrew Svoboda, Billy Hurley III, Martin Flores, Michael Thompson.

Thanks Chico. I thought in the "old days" Alternates were not permitted to play the course until their number is called.
John Huh, according to GC rerun last night.

Whether he plays or not, this tournament will mark the official end of the Tiger era. What does it mean in the "big" picture? Nothing!
08.6.2014 | Unregistered Commentereswan
So - does the alternate wait at the tee till 8:45? That seems awkward. Or does the PGA have six less players if they withdraw?
